I would not say that it is the most relevant to today, but I am only in my first year. Covering the basics is important and the professors are very good at teaching the fundamentals of any course that a student may want to pursue in the future.

I chose this university mostly because of the location. I chose this program because of my interest in psychology and media. My university is the 10th best in the world for my chosen field of study. I also chose it because of the great extra curricular opportunities.

The course syllabus at UBC seems to be quite relevant. We are given the opportunity to do work learn program at UBC. Students can also do work through careers online (a website by UBC where you can find work - even related to your majors).

I chose this university because of a number of reasons. First of all, it's one of the top five universities in Canada every year. I also got to know that it is good for studying psychology in which I always wanted to major in. Lastly, Canada has a lot of Indian students. Henceforth, knowing that I won't have a lot of adjustment problems in UBC was a plus.

All UBC courses are very research-oriented. They focus more on ways of answering questions in the field rather than theories that already exist. Some of the content can feel too Western oriented, especially in subjects like psychology and sociology, and could be updated to include more non-western perspectives. But courses generally give you a really good base for research. The assignments are challenging and you need to work really hard to do well. But the content is stimulating and rewarding.

Vancouver has one of the highest immigrant populations in the world so I felt comfortable knowing I'd be in a very diverse environment. There's a lot of violence and racism in many US colleges and even big colleges in Canada and UBC seemed quite committed to anti-racism and diversity. UBC also has the highest ranked psychology department in Canada. I always wanted to get into research so this was a big factor in my decision. Vancouver also has the best weather in Canada as it doesn't get very cold in the winter. It has a beautiful natural environment with beaches and mountains, and I was excited to live in a city surrounded by nature.

Most of my courses are related to my major. So I register for many psychology courses. I also take commerce courses as my minor degree. For elective courses, I took sociology and Asian studies. I am pretty interested in sociology and I participated in sociology research.

I knew UBC from my parent's friend. They said UBC is one of the top universities in Canada with a beautiful campus. That was the original motivation for me to apply to this university. Besides, this university was the best university that I can apply to according to my grades.

I thought my course syllabus was cutting edge, we were given many options on what types of psychology we could take (eg. sexual psychology, personality psychology, gambling, and addiction, etc.). We were given the option to apply for an RA for research experience and encouraged to become participants in research.

Students (BA) are expected to take a minimum of 9 credits a semester to remain a full-time student. Course Curricula are updated all year round, this was proven to us with the introduction of COVID related course content as soon as the start of summer 2020. While research isn't necessary to graduate, there are a large number of research opportunities within the university, with lots of labs hiring all year round. Most of our professors double as researchers, so it is easy to gain insight just by making the effort and asking TAs and professors questions about their backgrounds.
