- Master of Fine Arts in Theatre Design at the University of Alberta allows students to complete this course in 2 years.
- It is an on-campus program offered on a full-time basis.
- This program is an intensive studio design course consists of numerous studio and practical opportunities to develop and refine student's skills in lighting, costume, and set design.
- Students get the opportunity to do some specific courses in Costume, Lighting, and Scenic Painting Techniques.

- MFA students at design lights, sets, or costumes for 3 productions of varying style and scale, and they are responsible for the total production design of a UofA Studio Theatre main stage production as their thesis project.
- University provides small class sizes allow for maximum contact between students and professors and encourage collaboration between students.
- There are 20 full-time faculty experts with eminent professional theatre credentials and research records.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Eligibility:
- Students are required to have completed an undergraduate degree from a recognized University and are seeking to further develop and refine their theatre design skills.
- Students must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 (B Grade) on the University of Alberta's 4-point scale based on the recent two years of full-time study.
Work Experience:
Students must have professional design experience and a resume of related theatre experience.
Indian Student Eligibility:
Indian students are eligible to apply if they meet one of the following eligibility criteria:
- Completed a 4-year UG degree or equivalent degree from a recognized university.
- Students will need to submit school results for Class XI showing a competitive average and course registration for Class XII, or Class XII mid-year results.
- Students in CBSE or CISCE schools need to present a 75%+ score on their final Class XII exams.
Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test.

- CV/Resume: Outline of academic achievements and/or awards, publications, relevant work, and/or volunteer experience.
- Official Transcripts: Students have to submit a copy of their original official transcripts.
- Reference letters: Students will choose letter writers that will be able to comment on their academic record as well as other experiences or relevant skill sets.
- Three Letters of Reference: The online application system will notify the references and allow the student to upload their letters. Letters can be academic or business references.
- Statement of Intent: Reasons or intentions for pursuing studies in this program, including a description of prior experience.
- ELP Scores: Students have to submit their English language proficiency scores like IELTS, TOEFL, or other test scores.
- Students hold a portfolio containing examples of freehand drawing, and any other artwork that students may have done.
