Which is better for an MBBS course, KMC Manipal or Mangalore?

Both IMC Manipal as well as Mangalore have their own unique strengths and weaknesses. In terms of academics, both colleges are almost similar with some of the most experienced teachers, and excellent clinical exposure. The only major difference you will see is that KMC Mangalore has a dispersed campus so you have to travel through a city while you study. Mangalore therefore offers a more flexible life and offers an environment that helps you become a more independent person.

I would recommend Kasturba Medical College even over Government Institutes for MBBS training.

These are the books I and my peers used as KMC Mangalore MBBS students-

For first year-

Anatomy : Gray’s (Recommended); B.D. Chaurasia; Netter’s Atlas (must have).
Physiology : Guyton (Recommended); A.K.Jain (not as good as Guyton); Manipal Manual of Physiology (only to pass, last resort).
Biochemistry : Satyanarayan; Beena Shetty (only to pass, last resort).
Embryology : Inderbir Singh
Neuroanatomy : Snell (For Neuroanat).

For second year-

Pathology: Robbin’s (This is the only book you need for this subject).
Microbiology: Ananthanarayan(Fungus, Virus and Immunology is really good).
Pharmacology : Tripathi (Massive, but required for entrance); Shanbag (only to pass).
Forensic Medicine and Toxicology : Pillai (Really good book on this subject).

For third year-

Community Medicine : Park
Ophthalmology: Khurana (Last minute study)
ENT : Dhingra

For fourth year:

Medicine : Davidson (MUST HAVE, MUST READ); Harrison; Archit Sir (this book is really helpful). For Practical - Macleod’s. Some students use Harrison or Arup Kumar Kunda (this book helps with probable viva questions).
Surgery : Bailey (The BIBLE of Surgery); SRB. Some students use Clinical Pearls of Surgery
OBG : Dutta ( Always for Obstetrics); Sheila
Gyn - Shaws( Recommended)
Pediatrics : Ghai and class notes
Orthopedics : Maheshwari.

According to the reviews, I read online, the USA, Malaysia, Singapore, etc are some of the countries that acknowledge the dental, or the medical degree offered by Kasturba Medical College. If you plan to move out of the country then Kasturba Medical College can be a good option for you. You will be able to follow through on your plans with ease.

Malda Medical College is one of the worst colleges for pursuing medical. It was previously a district health care hospital and there were no plans of turning it into a medical college. It lacks proper medical equipment. The students of this college are people who do not have the money and did not achieve the rank required for studying in government medical colleges.
