National Power Training Institute (NPTI) is a National Apex body in India for training and human resources development in the power sector. It is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Power, Government of India and caters to the training needs of the power industry in India and abroad.
For admission to the B.Tech course at NPTI Durgapur, candidates have to sit for WBJEE / JEE Main. Admission to the Post Diploma course is on merit basis whereas admission to the PG Diploma course will be done on the basis of Merit List based on marks obtained by the candidates in the Common Entrance Test (CET) followed by counseling at NPTI Faridabad.

NPTI Durgapur offers four years full time B.E/ B.Tech course for Power Engineering (Electrical/ Mechanical). Admission to the course is done through GGSIPU CET or JEE Main WBJEE examination with an intake of 60 students. 6 seats are kept for diploma holders to take lateral entry admission in the 3rd semester of the program.
Candidates must have a valid score of the JEE Main/ WBJEE exam. They should have completed their 10+2 level of education with English, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics from a recognised board of education. In case of Lateral entry, the candidate should have passed the diploma in Mech-/Elect. Engg. from a Government approved polytechnic college.
Final year students can also apply for the program provided they must submit their certificates before the given schedule of submission.
At postgraduate level, NPTI Durgapur offers five post graduate diploma programs namely;
These are one year full time programs. Admission to the programs are done on the basis of Common Entrance Test (CET) scores conducted by NPTI at 7 NPTI centres.
The CET test will be of 1.5 hours duration consisting of Part 1 i.e the General Aptitude and Part 2 which is the General Engineering. In the General Engineering paper, it has two groups. Group 1 is for the candidates of Electrical, EEE, ECE, C&I, CSE and Group 2 is for Mechanical and Power Engineering discipline candidates.

Candidates applying for NPTI Durgapur Campus must have completed a Diploma program or equivalent from a recognised board in Mechanical/Electrical/Electrical & Electronics Engg. No admission test is necessary for the PDC program of NPTI Durgapur.
