Can anyone share his/her IIM Kozhikode interview experience?

Shivani Bhowmikstudied Post Graduate Programme in Management at Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode

My brother had his IIM Kozhikode on 1st February 2022. It was an online interview. Here is his experience in brief.

Profile:

  • 10th Percentage - 81%
  • 12th Percentile - 91%
  • Graduation (BMS Finance from SSCBS) - 85%
  • CAT Percentile - 96.5

There were 3 panelists. After the document verification, they started the interview.

  • First, there was an introduction round. They about my brother’s college, his hobbies.
  • They asked him about his specialization, what he likes about finance. For the next 5-10 mins, there was a discussion about the stock market. The 2nd panelist asked him how he select stocks.

The interview ended with a few questions regarding his background and some informal questions. Overall his interview went well and he is waiting for his results.

Pranav ShekharStudied at Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (Graduated 2020)

IIM Kozhikode is one of the best institutes in India. It nurtures young people and prepares them for future endeavors. IIM Kozhikode’s location is what makes it superior. The lush green surroundings add to the already calm ambiance of the campus. Apart from this IIM Kozhikode has many other salient features making it one of the best:

  1. The study material is extensive and mainly based on Harvard's Case studies.

  2. The institution offers research, an executive post-graduate program, an MBA program, and fellow programs.

  3. The faculty is experienced and wise. You can get a lot of help from them.

  4. The quality of food is also good here.

  5. The living conditions of IIM Kozhikode are no joke. With AC rooms and multiple hostel messes, the utmost importance has been given to the student fraternity.

  6.  There are snacks and tea stalls throughout the campus.

  7. IIM initiates many cultural activities, such as start-up culture promotion, fests and workshops, student exchange programs, and debates and discussions on management-related subjects.

Which one is better IIM Indore or IIM Kozhikode?

Sabeer Chalana
Parth SehgalStudied at Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode

Both IIMs are roughly comparable. And IIMK cannot be compared to IIMI solely on the basis of one or two major corporations. The benefits of being in K include being exposed to a different culture (Kerala as well as the campus culture in K, which includes things like open-door culture, etc.), which makes you a better person outside of the classroom. Academically, almost all subjects and streams have faculty similar to IIMI, a very good library, and a business museum that no other IIM has. IIMK and IIMI are both exposed to all business competitions, so there is no difference there either.

Although Indore is larger in terms of land area, the natural beauty of IIMK is breathtaking. The smaller batch size also helps K to get better quality placements for all, whereas IIMI lags behind due to their larger batch size for Indore Campus and combined placements for their Mumbai campus as well. IIMK is more than just a business management school; it has attempted to instill a sense of responsibility in its students through social projects and subjects such as Social Transformation and Globalization taught by renowned faculty. These may not be extra benefits for those who have passed both colleges, but they do provide IIMK alumni with a sense of pride.

What CAT percentile do I require to get calls from IIM Blackis, FMS, SP Jain, JBIMS and MDI Gurgaon?

Nikkil Visha
Anuraag DasStudied at MBA from NMIMS (2020)

For GEM, the CAT percentiles required to get an interview call from IIM Blackis, FMS, SP Jain, JBIMS, and MDI Gurgaon are

  • ABC and FMS: Both institutes required nothing less than 99.5. Those who get admission at a lesser percentile, usually don’t belong to the GEM category. There are many who don’t even get a call with 99.3. So to stay on the safer side, go for nothing less than 99.5.
  • IIM Indore and Kozhikode: Both the institutes require percentiles around 97.5 for an interview call
  • SPJIMR: This Institute has unique selection criteria under which CAT is given less value and calls are issued on the basis of the candidate's profile. The CAT percentile required in this case is less than the normal if you have a good academic profile along with work experience,
  • MDI: This institute issues calls around the 96% mark.

It’s important to know that these figures are based on trends and not on actual data so you will find exceptions everywhere. Moreover, it’s better you don’t waste time analyzing the CAT cutoff and start preparing for the same.

Pavitra DasPGDIM Industrial Management, National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2018)

Both IIM K and NITIE are renowned institutes and offer the same placement opportunities.

Your decision may be influenced by the distance of these institutions from your hometown, financial background, preference for a particular specialization, and many such factors. Since it is an important decision do not hastily jump to conclusions. Make a wise choice that would benefit you in the future.

Aaina Jindal
Jitha JohniStudied at Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (Graduated 2020)

Both IIM Calcutta and IIM Kozhikode are top-notch management institutes in India. The majority of people claim that IIMC is better than IIMK just because it has a strong alumni connection and extremely experienced faculty.

Mahak SenguptaPDGM from Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (2016)

The FPM program at IIM Kozhikode is designed for individuals who wish to pursue a career in research and academia. It’s recommended to be less dependent on your guide and then your program will be easier. The only disadvantage is that married students get their degree first and then married accommodation. Cons
