SAJ College offers reservation for S.C, S.T, OBC-A and OBC-B candidates in each subject as per university and government rules/regulations. 22% seats are reserved for SC candidates, ST candidates are given 6% seats, 3% of total seats are reserved for PC and OBC-A and OBC B have 10% and 7% seats reserved for them respectively. It should be noted that SC/ST candidates from states outside West Bengal are not entitled to any reservations, and the college treats them as candidates of general category.

• Minimum Eligibility Criteria for application for S.C. and S.T: Eligibility Criteria for Honours Course: Aggregate 40% [best 4] or/and Subject 40% and for General course – Pass marks in the Previous Examination, i.e., at 10+2 level
• Minimum Eligibility Criteria for application for OBC [A] and OBC [B] & PWD: Eligibility Criteria for Honours and General Courses is same as that decided by the college.
• Minimum Eligibility Criteria for application for Sports Persons: Eligibility Criteria for Honours Course -Aggregate 50% [best 4] and 45% in Subject or allied subject and for General Course – 40% in aggregate [best 4]

Additionally, all candidates seeking admission in the SAJ college are required to score passing marks in English. Admission to Honours and General courses will be subject to Calcutta University regulations of Calcutta University. Students seeking admission in Chemistry (Hons.) have to score Pass marks in Physics as well.

Vocational Stream Students are allowed to apply for BA/B.Com General courses only. The college announces merit list for vocational stream separately for a few earmarked seats. Girls taking admission in Morning shift will be given B.A. General - Elective English as General Subject. In this case, they are required to have 50% in English at 10+2 level. The college does not consider the following subjects for aggregate in top fours subjects: Fashion Designing, Environment Education/Studies, Geometrical & Mechanical Drawing, Physical Education, Horse Riding, Geometrical & Building drawing, Arts/Fine Arts, Music, Fashion Studies, Environmental Science (Compulsory), Music & Dance, Electricity & Electronics, Agriculture, Informatics Practices, Engineering Graphics, Creative Writing and Translation Studies, Graphics Design, BPO skill, Heritage Craft, and Business Process Outsourcing.
