Vivekananda College for Women Admission 2024: Courses, Fee, Selection Process

VCW offers 3 Full-Time 3 years UG courses under various specializations. It also offers an Honours degree for BA/B.Sc. for specific specialization. The admission to all the UG courses is based on Merit.

Specializations

Eligibility Criteria

• B.Sc.:- Candidate must have passed the Higher Secondary Education or 10+2 pattern with Physics, Chemistry, Maths or Biology as the main subjects from recognized Board or University/Institute with 50% aggregate.
• BA/B.Com.: Candidate must have passed the Higher Secondary Education or 10+2 pattern in any stream from recognized Board or University/Institute with 50% aggregate.

Selection Process

The admission to the UG courses are Merit based on the percentage in Higher Secondary or 10+2 pattern.

VCW offers Full-Time 2 years PG courses only in Arts Department with only 2 specializations. Admission to the course is based on the Entrance Exam conducted by Calcutta University followed by Interview.

Eligibility Criteria

• Candidate having a Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized university are eligible to apply.
• For the candidate who is Honours Graduate from University outside West Bengal will be according to Calcutta University Equivalence department. Honours in Arts at UG Degree level from IGNOU/NSOU and Distance education programme of other universities in West Bengal is also recognized.

Selection Process

• Selection is done on the basis of marks scored in 10+2, Graduation and Entrance Test conducted (Pre-MA) by the Calcutta University.
• Appear for entrance examination in case opted for MA
• A Merit list will be declared by Calcutta University and selected candidates will be called for an interview.

Merit List for PG courses

• Existing SC/ST/PWD/OBCA reservation will be followed separately in both Category – “A and Category – “B” Merit List.

• If seats for SC/ST are vacant in any of the category then it can be allotted to other Category.
• If candidate is selected in 1st preference then it is not mandatory for them to appear in the Entrance Examination.
• CU candidate not appearing for Entrance Test will be placed under both category “A” and “B” Merit List.

VCW offers Ph.D. in Geography only. Admission to the course is on the basis of Written Test followed by the Research Proposal and Interview.

Eligibility Criteria

• Candidate must have a MA or M.Sc Degree in the field of Geography from a recognized University.
• Candidate has to appear in the National / State level entrance exam.

Selection Process

• Admission to Ph.D is given on the basis of score in the Written Test followed by Research Proposal & an interview.
• UGC/ CSIR/ JRF (NET)/ SET/ SLET/ GATE or DST (Inspire) Scholarship or Teacher Fellowship holders and Students who have completed M.Phil/ M.Tech./ MD/ ME/ M.Pharma. Degree from a recognized university.
• Candidates should have obtained marks more than 25% of the marks obtained by the last candidate of the General Category.
• In case of OBC-A and OBC-B, selection will be made on the basis of the marks more than 10% of the marks obtained by the last candidate of the General Category.

Merit list declared will be as follows

Application for Ph.D

• The application form for Ph.D. courses can be downloaded from the official website of Calcutta University directly from the university admission counter on payment of INR 100 through cash.
• Send the Application form to the University along with application fee (In case of downloaded form DD of INR 100 in favor of University) and required documents.
• Domicile Certificate’ in case of candidates from other states
• Research Proposal and Short Essay in case of candidate applying for Ph.D. program.
• The entrance test will consist of 50 MCQs 2 marks each with total 100 marks. 25% negative marking is given for each incorrect answer.
