K.D.R Government Polytechnic College (KDRGP Wanaparthy) was established by late Sri Raja Rameshwar Rao of Wanaparthy and was inaugurated by the first Prime Minister of India Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru on the auspicious day of Vijay Dashimi on October 11, 1959. The college began with 3 courses with a total intake of 40 seats in each course. In all these days, many students from neighbouring countries like Bangladesh and Bhutan have studied in this college to boost their skills. Currently, the college offers 6 diploma courses across varied streams and accommodates around 1,000 students in total for the three years duration course.

At K.D.R. Government Polytechnic, the mode of application is online through the ranking secured in the TS POLYCET entrance. It is a common entrance test conducted by State Board of Technical Education and Training Telangana. The commencement date for online filling of basic information, Payment of processing fee and slot booking selection usually starts in the August month.
