Central Rice Research Institute, Cuttack Orissa is established in the year 1946 as Public Educational Institute to provide higher education to build a career in the field of Agriculture.
The institute came under the administrative control of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) in 1966.
The research institute is divided into various departments, each headed by a Departmental Head. CRRI Cuttack offers a Full-Time Doctorate program in Agriculture research of a 3-year duration.
The program will be available to the candidates with a post-graduate degree from the SAUs/UGC recognized Universities/Deemed Universities/Organizations recognized by Technical Education Councils /equivalent recognized organizations with PG programs in the related subjects.

The students who have been awarded a fellowship from DBT/DST/CSIR or any other equivalent organization can pursue his/her Ph.D. programme from NRRI after registration with the university with which NRRI has a memorandum of understanding.

CRII Cuttack Ph.D. Eligibility criteria
- Candidates should have completed M.Sc. In Life Sciences/ Agriculture/ Plant Sciences/ Environmental Sciences with minimum 55 % marks (50% marks for SC/ST/PH).
- Those candidates who have cleared UGC NET JRF Exam should apply when the organization conferring a Ph.D. degree announces for registration of the candidates.
CRII Cuttack Ph.D. Selection Criteria
- Those candidates who had cleared above mentioned UGC JRF NET Exam or equivalent will be enrolled for the Ph.D. program in academic.
- Candidates will be called for an Interview which is mandatory for all candidates.
- The chosen candidates will need to complete Pre-Ph. D. courses in any one of the 3 sub-disciplines (Plant Sciences/Biotechnology & Bioinformatics/Chemical sciences) of the interest as the Core courses with optional classes, in two semesters, spread over one year.
- On the successful completion of courses, students will be eligible for Registration as CRRI Ph.D. scholar under the supervision of CRRI scientists available as a Guide to perform research on a scientific topic covered under the aforementioned areas.
- Selected candidates can take admission by submitting the required documents.
- The selected candidates will be bound by the rules and regulations of the NRRI. The Institute reserves the right to cancel the offer of any candidate without prior intimation or showing any reason.
