BHMCT also known as Bachelor of Hotel Management and Catering Technology is a 4 year undergraduate program that deals with explaining concepts relating to hotel management, hospitality and catering. In order to be eligible for the program, candidates must have completed class 12th with a minimum aggregate of 50% or above from a recognized institute. The syllabus of BHMCT is spread over 8 semesters. Each semester is a combination of core subjects as well elective subjects. The 4th semester involves practical training in a hotel chain. This course introduces candidates to the concept of hospitality and management. BHMCT First Semester Subjects

  • Food Production Foundation -  This subject provides basic knowledge cooking, recipe etc. this deals with meaning, objective, kitchen organization, ingredients, techniques of preparation and cooking, cuts of vegetables etc.
  • Food & production Service Foundation - This subject provides knowledge of food service, procedures etc to beginners. The topics included are introduction, areas, Departmental organization, Equipment, beverages,etc. This subject also has practical subjects.
  • Accommodation Operations - This course specializes in the organization of housekeeping, systems, and functions. This subject is a combination of theoretical and practical subjects, work ethics, guest care, cleanliness, etc.

BHMCT Second Semester Subjects

  • Food production foundation II – This subject includes the learning of Indian cookery basics, gravies, commodities, patisserie, meat cookery, basic commodities, soups and salads, fish cookery etc.
  • Food & beverage Service Foundation II - This subject aims at providing knowledge of food service along with principles, functions, procedure, etc. This also includes menu planning and the sale control system etc. 
  • Front Office Theory II- This subject provides knowledge to the students about various functions of the front office, working towards ethics, customer care, registration, guest handling, front desk functions etc. 

BHMCT Third Semester Subjects

  • Industrial Training- This subject provides day-to-day practical experience performing real-life duties. This subject includes a minimum of 22-24 weeks of work covering food production, food & beverage service, accommodation service etc. 

BHMCT Fourth Semester Subjects

  • Introduction to Indian Cookery- This subject includes the knowledge of Indian regional cuisine, spices, Indian gravies, cooking methods, equipment, specific cooking ingredients, traditional recipes etc. 
  • Accounting skills for hospitality Managers- The main purpose of the program is to understand the basic principles of accounting and their application in the hospitality industry. The topics included in the program are basic accounting and bookkeeping, uniform system of accounts, trial balance, final accounts etc.

BHMCT Entrance test syllabus of MAH CET

MAH CET conducts an exam for BHMCT in Hotel management every year for admission in undergraduate courses. The exam pattern includes Reasoning and Logical Deduction, English Language and General Knowledge. The total duration of the course is 90 mins and the total marks are 100. Each correct answer will be given 1 mark.

BHMCT Teaching Methodology and Techniques

BHMCT course is divided into 8 semesters. Throughout the course, candidates learn about the different concepts relating to hotel management, catering, hospitality, financing, accounting etc. The course is a combination of core subjects, elective subjects, practical & industrial training and a lot more.
