BUMS Subjects

The subjects of BUMS are important for students in order to choose this subject.

BUMS First Year Subjects

• Kulliyat Umoor e Tabiya (Basic Principles of Unani Medicine): Kulliyat Umoore T?abiya is a fundamental subject that provides the basis for the study of Unani medicine as it deals with the governing principles of this medicine. 
• Tashreeh Ul Badan (Anatomy): Tashreehul Badan is the most fundamental of all medical sciences. Tashreehul Badan including general, regional and systemic, is primarily the scientific study of the morphology of the human body. 
• Munafeul Aaza (Physiology): The branch of biology that deals with the normal functions of living organisms and their parts are Munafeul Aaza (Physiology).

BUMS Second Year Subjects

• Tareekh-e-tib (History of Medicine): Tareekh-e-Tibb covers the history by the roots and periodic development of Unani Medicine 
• Tahaffuzi wa Samaji Tib (Preventive and Community Medicine): It is imparting health education at the Under graduate levels. It aims to prevent diseases and promote health so as to live a productive life.
• Mahiyatul Amraz (Pathology): Mahiyatul Amraz, a branch of Unani Medicine concerned with the study of the abnormal state of body i.e., disease.

BUMS Third Year Subjects

• Tibbe Qanooni wa Ilmul Samoom (Medical Jurisprudence and Toxicology): Medical jurisprudence is the study and application of scientific and medical knowledge to legal problems.
• Amraz-e-Atfal (Paediatrics): Amraze-e-Atfal deals with the growth, development, diagnosis and treatment of pediatric patients.

BUMS Fourth Year Subjects

• Amraze Niswan (Gynaecology): It deals with the functions and diseases related to women and girls, especially affecting the reproductive system.
• Ilmul Qabalat wa Naumaulood (Obstetrics and Neonatology): Obstetrics is the branch of medicine that deals with childbirth and the care of the mother before and after birth. Neonatology is the branch of medicine that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of disorders in newborns.
• Ilmul Jarahat (Surgery): Surgery is a medical specialty that uses operative manual and instrumental techniques on a person, concepts involving different surgical methods for the treatment or diagnosis of a human body. Students are taught the subtleties of human anatomy, microbiology, pathology, etc.

BUMS Internships

B.U.M.S. is a 5.5 years degree which involves 4.5 years of main course classes and 1-year mandatory internship. The duration of the Compulsory Rotatory Internship shall be one year and the student shall be eligible to join the compulsory internship program after passing all the subjects from the first to the final professional examinations, and the internship program shall start after the declaration of the result of the final professional examination. Normally one-year internship program shall be divided into clinical training of six months in the Unani hospital attached to the college and six months in a Primary Health Centre or Community Health Centre or Rural Hospital or District Hospital or Civil Hospital or any Government Hospital of modern medicine.

Courses after BUMS 

• Diploma in Unani Medicine and Surgery: After BUMS, students may pursue Diploma in Unani Medicine Science and surgery. It covers the medical knowledge of the Unani system. To pursue this diploma is quite enough to become a doctor (Hakim).
• Master of Medicine in Unani: M.D in Unani Medicine is another good option after completing BUMS. It is a 2-year doctoral course. Unani medicine is a method of alternative medicine that developed in ancient Greece and is now practiced essentially in India.
• MBA in Hospital and Health System Management: Students from any field can pursue MBA. He/she must have a valid score in the entrance exam for admission to any MBA course. MBA in Hospital and Healthcare Management is a two years program whose objective is to develop a cadre of professional managers for the rapidly growing healthcare industry.
