Ques. What should I choose for M.Tech in Bio tech, IIT Mandi or NIT Bhopal?

● Top Answer By Soutrik Gupta on 26 May 23

Ans. I feel you are torn between the IIT and NIT tags here. In that case, new IITs are a better option unless you are considering top NITs like Warangal, Surathkal, or Calicut.  But it seems you have 2 generation NITs in your list only. In that case, IIT Mandi is a preferable choice.  IIT Mandi has a better learning environment and competition  IIT Mandi has one of the most beautiful campuses and it’s location is also a boon. The new IITs have young professors who are dynamic and friendly.  Either program will offer a plethora of opportunities, and choosing one over the other will be merely because of personal preferences. Read more

Ques. How is M.Tech Bioprocess Engineering at IIT Madras?

● Top Answer By Arati Sinha on 31 Mar 23

Ans. M.Tech Bioprocess Engineering specifically revolves around Mathematical concepts and even contains concepts related to engineering mathematics. It is most suitable for those who study Engineering Mathematics in their Bachelor's program. For those with only GATE-level Math knowledge, it might be difficult to cope and you might even end with a low CGPA. Some core subjects that contain tough Mathematical concepts include Transport Phenomenon Thermodynamics in Biochemical Engineering Bioprocess Control Downstream Processing  Additionally, there are assignments related to coding in MATLAB in Thermodynamics and Bioprocess Control which are very challenging unless you find good assistance by your friends or seniors. The coursework also contains projects in both dry and wet labs. The former is related to modeling/simulation/coding either in MATLAB or Python while the latter are experimental projects conducted in labs. The specialization is still in its infancy and has very few core companies coming for placements. Some core companies that visited in the past few years are Perfect Day (INR 6 LPA) Syngene String Biosciences However, non-core opportunities are plenty with first from various sectors like analytics, finance, and software offering great packages provided you have basic computer science knowledge.Read more

Ques. How is M.Tech biotechnology at IIT Mandi in terms of research?

● Top Answer By Vaibhav Sinha on 30 Jun 23

Ans. Choosing an M.Tech. in biotechnology for research purposes might not be a good decision.  For better job opportunities and placements, opt for other streams like CSC; otherwise, you will end up as a postgraduate in the biotech field without the perfect job you wish for.  The biotech department in most of institutions, including IITs, is weak in nature. Most students prefer other streams for their higher studies, which is a good idea to secure your career.  The only option left for you is to take the JRF and NET exams. If you have a strong interest in the biotech field prefer institutions like IISERs, TIFR, IISc, DU and JNU other than Mandi Read more
