Ques. Which is better purely in terms of placement, XLRI BM or HRM?

● Top Answer By Viren Bhalla on 20 May 21

Ans. Although choosing a course just based on placement records is not a good idea, there are some insights you must know before deciding. Placement is for the first job which you might do for 2–3 years while your career will span for 30–35 years. You should choose what you feel you want to be doing. You must have heard that HR roles offer you better work-life balance but it might not be true in every case. It depends a lot on the company, your manager, and your role. If work-life balance is your criteria, you might feel a shock when you join a company. HR might not have business targets but you may face other pressures. Placements in any campus depend on your luck too. HR batch strength increase in XL might make the competition for the good roles a little higher because the number of HR roles is limited. BM batch is still divided amongst Fin/Mar/Ops camps giving them specific roles but the number of opportunities might be higher.  All in all, placements won't secure your future in any way if you choose a field where you aren’t interested. Read more

Ques. How is XIMB BM in comparison with NMIMS HR?

● Top Answer By Sangeeta Nandi on 17 Apr 21

Ans. If you compare the two institutes purely based on brand value, location, batch strength, etc. then it is clear that NMIMS Mumbai is the better institute. XIMB Bhubaneswar was a much better institute before, but it has lost its old charm now and has been clearly overtaken by NMIMS Mumbai.  This could be due to the placements on which the students did not concentrate well enough or the institute did not change the course structure according to the market demand or simply that the location and other advantages got NMIMS to a better spot. This is not to say that XIMB Bhubaneswar is bad, in fact, it is better than many other private B-schools, but it has lost itself to NMIMS Mumbai. Now comparing the two courses, the MBA in Business Management (MBA - BM) from XIMB Bhubaneswar is the core program of the institute with the option of pursuing specializations in operations, marketing, and HR after first year. The HR program in NMIMS Mumbai grooms the students to be future HRs from day one. Categories XIMB MBA-BM NMIMS HR Highest CTC INR 26.00 LPA INR 22.00 LPA Average CTC INR 15.42 LPA INR 14.98 LPA Percentage of students who received PPO/PPI offers 20.27% 53% Number of recruiters 107 29 Percentage of new recruiters 51.40% 24.14% As it can be seen, XIMB BM does provide a better average CTC to its students than the NMIMS HR. But the difference is negligible and considering the brand reputation, location and other things such as future growth potential, NMIMS HR is a better choice of the two purely in terms of placement perspective as it is the dominant decision-maker for many students. However, if you are not interested in HR and want to go for other specializations, then XIMB BM is your only choice and is not bad either.Read more

Ques. Which will give me the exposure and on-site working experience: XLRI, HRM, or BM?

● Top Answer By Aditya Mishra on 09 Jun 21

Ans. One of my friends is studying at XLRI. To her, there is no difference or classification of the amount of international exposure or on-site opportunities, based on specializations. The points below provide a clear picture of the modes of international exposure that students of XLRI receive during their course and afterward. There is a student exchange program in XLRI, which provides foreign learning opportunities to students. The institute has tie-ups with several international business schools like ESADE, Audencia, Darden, and EM Lyon. Almost 20% of students from the batch get the opportunity to spend a semester in one of the foreign institutes. Among them, most of the seats are available to HR and BM students. Students get the benefit of interacting with international students and get used to the global perspective of MBA. In terms of internships and placements, the working experience of candidates totally depends upon the job role offered by the company. In certain cases, companies send their summer interns abroad to their offices. There are HR interns from HUL, who worked in the United Kingdom during their internship period. Therefore, specialization is not the mode of distinguishing chances for on-site opportunities, and the factor is entirely based on the company’s business requirements.Read more

Ques. Why does everyone talk about XLRI HR and not BM? Is BM bad at XLRI?

● Top Answer By Ashish Patil on 17 Jun 21

Ans. It is not a question about whether or not BM is bad, and HR is good. XLRI is more known for HR because it has stuck with the brand. The brand XLRI primarily had an established legacy in Industrial Relations (IR). Which later converted into HR. XLRI established its reputation as an IR concentrated institution following the Independence of the country. BM, on the other hand, was inaugurated only afterward alongside older IIMs. This has somehow resulted in leading to the XLRI brand getting generally and mostly associated with HR, and not BM. It’s rare to find any industry or top-tier companies in the country where the top HR personnel is not from XLRI. Now when talking about BM at XLRI, there is definitely a strong and successful alumni base from BM in the industrial sector. In fact, for further recruitments, alumni of XLRI get placed in McK, BCG, and several more from the BM sector.Read more

Ques. How are XLRI, XIMB, FMS, and NITR to pursue MBA (BM)? What about the placements?

● Top Answer By Ragini Mukharjee on 05 Jul 22

Ans. FMS, XLRI, XIMB are among the top B-Schools in the country. NITR doesn’t belong in the same category as these institutions.  FMS placements are great. It offers the best ROI, in the country. The course fee for an MBA at FMS is only INR 1.92 Lakhs, while the average CTC offered by the institute is around INR 32.4 LPA. Most of the top Finance and consulting companies visit FMS for placements.  XLRI is one of the oldest and reputed B-School in the country. However, it is more known for its HRM program rather than MBA BM. XLRI placements 2022 had a median CTC of around INR 30 LPA.  XIMB offers a decent MBA BM program. The placement for this course are pretty good. According to the recent highlights of XIMB placements, students receive a median CTC of around INR 15 LPA. Read more
