Master of Science [M.S] (Business Mathematics)
Field of Study:
The master’s degree is usually based on a bachelor’s degree. The standard period of study including the time for the preparation of the master's thesis and for the complete taking of the examinations is 2 academic years or 4 semesters.
The course has a modular structure in all sections. A module describes the combination of thematically and simultaneously coordinated teaching/learning units, possibly including external internships.

Tuition Fees
There are no tuition fees at the University of Duisburg-Essen. All students are, however, subject to a student body and social contribution fee per semester.
The social and student body contribution for the winter semester 2021 amounts to a total of $387.43. However, the social and student body contribution for the summer and winter semesters of 2021 amounts to a total of $774.86 per year.
The amount is made up as follows:
- Mobility contribution (ticket): $253.41, of which $183.94 for the VRR semester ticket and $69.47for the NRW ticket
- Social contribution for the Studierendenwerk: $114.98
- Student body fee: $19.04.
The social and student body contribution is not to be paid before enrollment! Students will be informed about the payment modalities upon registration.
Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Eligibility:
- Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Industrial Mathematics or Business Mathematics at the University of Duisburg-Essen or an equivalent or comparable degree in the field of mathematics.
- The overall grade must be at least 3.0 or better.
Indian Eligibility:
Indian students are eligible to apply if they meet the following language proficiency criteria:
- Citizens of a country outside the EU with a foreign university entrance qualification must pass the "German language test for university entrance" (DSH 2 level) or the TestDaF (TDN 4) before starting their studies.
- Educational residents (people who have obtained their higher education entrance qualification in Germany or at a German school abroad) do not require any special proof of German language skills.
- Good knowledge of English is required.
Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent certificate to get admission to this program.
