Super 30: Early Life of Anand Kumar
Anand Kumar of Super 30 Patna is an Indian mathematician and columnist who has been brought up in Patna, Bihar. His father was a post office clerk, so he went to a Hindi medium government school where he renewed his interest in mathematics.
Although Anand got admission to Cambridge University, he was unable to pursue studies there because of the death of his father and his financial status. He studied mathematics in the morning and sold papads in the evening with his mother to earn bread and butter for his family. He mentored students in maths to earn extra money.
Super 30: History
Super 30 Institute started in 2002 when Abhayanand and Anand Kumar chose 30 understudies from financially deprived regions who could not afford to take the training of JEE Mains & JEE Advanced examination for admission to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). These 30 understudies were then coached without any coaching fees to pass the IIT-JEE entrance exam. During this one-year tenure, they provide all the study material and mock test series.
Since 2003, the Ramanujan School of Mathematics, now a trust, has conducted a Super 30 entrance exam every June to select those 30 students. Approximately 4,000 to 5,000 students take the exam, and he eventually takes thirty intelligent students from economically backward sections, including beggars, hawkers, and auto-driver's children, tutors them, and provides study materials for a year. He prepares them for the Joint Entrance Examination for the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT). His mother, Jayanti Devi, cooks for the students, and his brother, Pranav Kumar, takes care of the management.
