- The EdD offers an opportunity for education professionals to develop high-quality research skills and complete an advanced research qualification to international standards. It also contributes to the development of professional peer networks based on an interest in carrying out and disseminating educational research at a high level.
- In 2017, the School of Critical Studies in Education is offering a Doctor of Education (EdD) inquiry pathway to delve into how organizations may better serve the principles of equity, diversity, and justice.
- The EdD has the same status as the Ph.D. but recognizes the professional experience, students bring and their concern to apply research directly in their professional contexts. The EdD internationally has now become the benchmark in terms of researching professional policy and practice.
- It is specifically designed for senior and middle managers/professionals who want to extend their academic knowledge and expertise to apply it directly to the particular professional settings in which they work.
- School principals or middle managers, senior policy advisors, iwi leaders, educational or social policy consultants, leaders of organizations, and those interested in an academic career with a focus on professional practice would all be ideal EdD candidates.
Program highlights:
- Prepare leaders and practitioners in a variety of educational contexts for the application of appropriate and specific practices, the generation of new knowledge, and transformative improvement of the profession.
- Organized around the study needs of full-time professionals in education and other related fields.
- Students engage in processes of peer review and seek publication of their work in refereed journals.
