MITE Mangalore

Mr. Narendra U P is currently serving as the Dean (T&P) at Mangalore Institute of Technology & Engineering (MITE), Karnataka. He is also the Head of Bosch Rexroth Centre of competence in Automation Technology at MITE. He also had a brief stint at Industry at MindTree Technologies. Prior to the current role at MITE, he also served in various roles at other prestigious Organizations. He is also currently the Center In charge of the MITE Incubation Center and involved in mentoring Young Innovators at MITE towards shaping them as Entrepreneurs. 


What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

“Monitoring and mentoring the students in different streams of accomplishment”

Shaping the Career of a Young Mind with a great dream, and being able to contribute towards realizing that dream has always been the best reason to be in the Education sector. Young Minds of Today have the greatest dreams, they have a passion for realizing their goals, and also dreams of achieving big dreams for the country. Contributing to such a greater cause, Mentoring and guiding young minds are the happiest thing one can get. 


What is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?

“Team leadership with collaborative decision making for the institute”

Influence & Inspire Commitment is one of the key factors that I believe in the success of my Leadership. You can achieve this by building trust with your colleagues. And another important aspect of Leadership is to groom more leaders. When you can inspire your Team Members to think like a leader, the Organization will surely succeed. The more leaders that I am able to create, deliver more success for me and the Organization. 


How do you strategize about the key programs and plans for the marketing and administration of your school?

“Our marketing strategy ensures the appraisal of the efforts of faculty and our students”

Our major stakeholder for our marketing strategy is our students, faculty members, Alumni. We connect with the Parents and Alumni very regularly and keep them abreast of every major accolade, an accomplishment that the Organization has been achieving. The effort of the organization to provide the extra; a global career that is relevant in current times has itself stood for what we are and has given us an outlook that stakeholders appreciate hence making them our ambassadors. Innovation has been a game-changer. We have been successful in mentoring our young graduating students to win accolades at international and national engineering championships and has negated the need for a marketing campaign for our achievements sets us apart in the crowd. The acknowledgment for the quality and the perseverance of the institution has been the accreditation from the National Board of Accreditation(NBA) and the institution from National Assessment & Accreditation Council(NAAC) hinting at us being a leader with a difference and this has been the key to our success and has placed us strong in the league.

How does the curriculum of the Mangalore Institute of Technology & Engineering ensure the best practice of industry?

“Preparing students to be industry-ready with several associations”

  • We have MoU with the industry leader, Bosch Rexroth and set up a Centre of Competence in Automation Technology providing students a hands-on learning experience in Industrial Automation. 
  • We are also an advanced Partner Institute for the Infosys Campus Connect, and have been providing soft skills training and Foundation course training on Computer Technology as required by the Industry. 
  • We also have tied up with SIEMENS, and established a Centre of Excellence in Digital Design, Validation, and Digital Manufacturing at a cost of US$79 Million for training on Digital design, validation and manufacturing.
  • The MoU with KPIT Technologies and UI Path, gears our students to be abreast with the sought of technologies in the industry. Collaboration with Carl Zeiss opens them a doorway of opportunities in Industrial metrology.
  • The state of the art Innovation and Incubation Network, supported by Govt. of India and the State of Karnataka adds to the diversity.

These strong insights provided on campus has ensured that students win laurels in National engineering project Championships like Hybrid Vehicle Championship, Unisys 20/20, KPIT Sparkle and many.


Any insights into how your university could be more welcoming to students of different races or economic backgrounds?

“We promote anti-racism and anti-discrimination among students”

MITE has always believed in providing equal opportunity to all students irrespective of their economic, race, or any background. We believe in shaping Youg Technocrats and Leaders of Tomorrow who can bring a new change. Their background should never ever be a hindrance to growth. 


What do you think your roles and responsibilities to the Organization and the students are?

“Enhancing Knowledge & Skill of a Student, towards making them a successful Engineer, as per the future needs of the Industry”

I always believe that as an Education Institute our focus should be primarily on ‘Imparting Knowledge’ then thinking about Jobs. It is my responsibility to deliver the very best facilities to the students for industrial expertise. Without any rigid time-bound, we keep revising the program as per the necessity of the Industry. I maintain open communication with proper decorum and responsibility towards the students. We have been achieving very good results through this program and have been one of the key success factors of our Growth.


What would you like people to know about your university they may not know?

“Various collaborations with various organizations for enriching students in every field”

Our institution is located in a rural place called Moodabidri near Mangalore, Karnataka. Most of our Students come from rural backgrounds and a vernacular medium of schooling. However, this has never ever been a deterrent and our students have still delivered the best.

  • Our students have been participating in UNISYS Cloud 20/20, National level Project competition every year, and have been successful to be in the top three in the nationals for the last three years successively. 
  • MITE won the KPIT Sparkle National Championship with a cash prize of INR. 10 Lakhs and two teams are in the Top 100 this year.
  • Hybrid Car designed by our Students won the All India Championship in 2019, and All Terrain Vehicle designed by our Students won JK Tyres Most popular Car of the Year Award in 2018.
  • Formula Car designed by our Students won the III Prize for Design in FMAE Formula Student 2017.
  • MITE has been getting the maximum number of fundings for student projects from Govt. of Karnataka’s KSCST.
  • Our Faculty Team has always been shaping our Students with the knowledge that is there beyond the curriculum, and from the practical world. This has always been our biggest USP. 

What do you see as the Mangalore Institute of Technology & Engineering’s greatest strengths?

“Our faculty is the pillars of our institute”

Our Greatest Strength has always been our Faculty. MITE has been able to secure Top University Ranks, including the First Rank in Mechanical Engineering in 2019, along with the honor of being the Top scorer amongst all Rank holders was able due to the diligent efforts, continuous mentoring, imparting knowledge beyond the curriculum by our Faculty. We have been able to achieve Top Honor in securing University Ranks and in winning laurels at National prestigious Project events with a strong Faculty team.

How do you tend to establish a healthy relation and environment in your institute?

“Open communication and mutual understanding are the key factors”

A Workplace can be healthy when there is strong collaboration and communication amongst all employees and other stakeholders. Regular interaction of employees with the Organization Leadership team and instilling confidence, recognizing efforts has always been our way of creating a good work environment. The continuous communication and a support system provided to the students by our team of faculty during this crisis also has created a good ecosystem across all stakeholders.
