Prof. Avinash Chandra Sinha is the Assistant Director of RTC Institute of Technology, Ranchi. He has over 10 years of experience with leadership roles in development of quality technical education and infrastructure at RTC Institute- 5 years as Principal and 5 years as Assistant Director. In his interview he explains why the education sector is the best to work in. He takes us through his journey and how education domain magnetized his interest towards it. He goes on to describe the effectiveness of coordinated teamwork for an effective functioning and how the institute brings the same in picture by offering quality education to the students. 


My inclination towards education and working with the young minds brought me to the education sector

I came to academia from an industrial background. I served in different industrial companies over 35 years and the last 10 years of my service was involved in research and development initiatives. It was over these years that my inclination to get involved in academics grew and my interest to contribute to the education sector developed. After retirement, I decided to pursue my interest and work towards strengthening the academics and industry linkage. It has been ten years since I joined RTC Institute of Technology and I have drawn immense satisfaction from being associated with academia.


It is important to have a coordinated teamwork for effective functioning of the organization

One has to realize that in the education sector, teamwork is very important. All the faculty members and staff work towards providing quality education to the students. While collaborative working is key, I believe in setting out strategic goals for the institute coupled with a strong plan of action which is result oriented and time bound.

We want to establish ourselves as a renown institution offering quality education to the students 

The strategic focus of the institute over the last 10 years has been to establish RTCIT as a renowned institute offering quality education in the state of Jharkhand. We have successfully been able to develop excellent infrastructure levels which includes classrooms, computer labs, library facilities, resident hostel facilities for both girl and boy students. To bridge the gap between industry and academia, we have been organising industry workshops, internships and are also working on ensuring 100% campus placement assistance. At the heart of all these efforts is the focus of moving towards student centric education. All these efforts are being realized as the institute has gained immense visibility and we have been able to attract students not only from surrounding areas but also from the neighboring states in India.


The competition in the technical education has immensely increased therefore we adopt an approach of being proactive and relevant

RTCIT is affiliated to Jharkhand University of Technology and has adopted syllabus in line with the model curriculum of AICTE which has a strong connection to the industry. We take regular inputs from the industry and professionals through workshops and expert lectures. Apart from that the faculty members are also continually updating themselves by doing online certification courses on SWAYAM and MOOCs. Given the competition in the technical education arena, RTCIT adopts an approach of being proactive and relevant so that we are able to continually improve our standards. This approach not only benefits our existing students but also creates a better visibility for attracting a greater number of students from wider geography.


RTCIT welcomes students from diverse backgrounds and ethnicities

For the students belonging to the OBC, SC & ST groups, scholarships through government schemes are available. About 80% of our students are from rural areas and belong to economically weaker sections. We also offer hostel facilities for both girls and boys inside the campus with all the necessary facilities.

My key responsibility is to work towards enhancing the quality of education at our institution

Being the Assistant Director of the Institute, my key responsibility is to work towards enhancing the quality of education offered at the institute. Therefore, I am involved in overseeing different aspects related to education quality and teaching delivery apart from managing administrative affairs and liaising with external stakeholders like AICTE, recruiters etc. At a more strategic level, I am working in strengthening existing courses, besides setting processes for internal reviews to ensure that the pedagogy and the curriculum is relevant and meets quality standards. Further, work is going on fast mode for Accreditation of Courses with the National Board of Accreditation.


We believe we have an integral role to play in developing knowledge base, skills and attitude

Our vision for RTCIT for the next 10 years is to make it a nationally ranked institute having its own branding and market visibility. Besides continually ratcheting up the teaching and infrastructure standards at the institute, we believe we have an integral role to play in developing knowledge base, skills and attitude. This will provide enough scope to students for higher studies, employment and Entrepreneurship.

The youth of the country has a key responsibility towards nation building and it is only education that can help them contribute towards this goal. “Self-belief, hard work and openness to learning” are the three mantras that I would suggest for the youth and aspiring students.
