Ms. Anupa Baliga B. S is the HOD – Commerce of the Besant Women's College, Mangalore, Karnataka. She completed her B. Com from Canara First Grade College. In addition to this, she completed her M. Com and M. Phil from Mangalore University. She has participated in more than 30 workshops, seminars, and conferences. She also has 4 publications which include “Investment Pattern and Preferences of Individuals: in the present global scenario”, “An Empirical Study on the Effect of Employee Engagement on Attrition with Reference to low-level employees in Mangaluru City” and more. “Challenges in Primary Education”, and “Consumer Perception towards Green Products with Reference to Mangaluru City: An empirical study” are some of the papers presented by her at different conferences and seminars. She has an experience of more than 15 years in the field of teaching.

What is the latest program that you are offering in your institute/dept., which will help students outperform and stand apart from the crowd?

Master of Commerce provides a learning environment that is focused on the needs of the students and is supported by critical thinking, problem-solving, and research skills. This programme seeks to develop M. Com graduates with skills and competencies, who will meet the needs of business and academia.


What are the factors that make this program the best for the students to opt for?

We hold conferences, symposiums, and fests like Innovision and Prayukthi to help students network, exchange ideas, and develop their talents. Students are encouraged to take up projects, internships, and present research papers at conferences. Union events, guest lecturers, life and soft skills, Certificate programmes, Rotaract club activities, extension and outreach activities, industry visits, etc. are a few other activities. Through these activities, students can grow personally and contribute to a prosperous future.


What will you say are the “best practices” in the course you’re offering?

The Best Practices of the department are the involvement of students in organizing fests and conferences that allow them to exhibit their individual abilities and skills, and also interaction with M. Com alumni which plays a significant role in the holistic growth of a student's personality and provide a learning experience.


What are some valuable insights into the program that you are offering at your institute/dept.?

To provide high-quality education and create academicians and entrepreneurs for the benefit of society. We Make sure that we make the student’s industry ready for them to be successful in the near future.

How does the program ensure that students are being prepared for the future?

The program provides corporate interaction, Internships, organizes soft skills programs, Alumni Interaction, Research Exposure, Community Service, and so on.

Students will be able to enrich their knowledge and skills to crack competitive examinations and build up their soft skills and interview skills by enhancing their communication abilities.


How did you train yourself/faculty to deliver this program to the students?

Through participation in various faculty development programs, and presentation of research papers in conferences and seminars. We make sure that the faculty is well equipped with what the situation requires them to be and also adapt as per the changing needs.


How do you tend to build an industry connect with this program? 

The program engages in corporate interaction for activities and internships, organises soft skills programs, and placement drives. By signing MOUs, the program upholds industry relationships.


What were the challenges that you faced while inculcating this program into your curriculum?

There was not much challenge faced while inculcating the M. Com program as we were one of the first private Colleges to begin the Program in 2009.


What are the types of projects that the students are working on through this Program?

Currently, students are working on Projects like CRM systems, brand image, buying behaviour, employee performance appraisal and satisfaction, and the impact of GST on various business and promotional strategies.
