Manali Bhattacharya is currently serving as Placement Head at George Group of Colleges, Kolkata. Starting her career in the educational sector with the George Telegraph Group as an academic counsellor cum course coordinator, she has a wide experience of more than a decade in Training, Placement and Corporate Affairs. She is responsible for different kinds of training activities, arranging campus interviews, webinars and seminars for the students, and staff acquisition as well.

What are the different programs you have introduced in your college?

“Wide array of bachelor, master and certificate courses”

We have started a number of Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree courses as well as Certificate Programmes in different disciplines of Management and Science. BBA (Global Business), BBA in Accountancy, Taxation and Auditing, B.Sc IT (Big Data Analytics and Cyber Security), B.Sc in Gaming and Mobile Application Development, etc. Also, Bachelor’s in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Medical Lab Technology, Mathematics & Computing, VFX Film Making, and so on. Master’s Degree programmes include M.Sc. in Computer Science, Data Science & Analytics, Mathematics & Computing, Multimedia, Animation & Graphics, and Clinical Psychology. Certificate Course in Psychological Assessment, and Healthcare Counselling are also available.


Any insights on the placement statistics of your college?

“Good placement rate and diverse recruiters worldwide”

According to our last year report, 60% students opted for placement, 50% got placed in

various companies and organisations nationwide. The rest of 40% went for higher studies. We have tie ups with many national and international companies that come for on-campus recruitment at George Group. Our recruiters include top multinational companies like Cognizant., TCS, Infosys, Capgemini, Learnabyte, Amazon, Techtree Technologies, Frostees India, Aditya Birla Capital, Apollo Gleneagles, etc. Healthcare institutions like B.M.Birla Heart Research Centre, Bhagirothi Neotia Child And Woman Care, Medica Superspeciality Hospital, AMRI Hospital, Columbia Asia Hospital, Fortis Hospital, Apollo Clinic, etc. for internships and recruitment of medical students. The average initial package offered to the student is 20k to 25k.

How do you prepare the students for the placement program?

“Pre-placement training and workshops”

The process starts from the 2nd semester of the programme. We provide continuous personality development and grooming sessions, arrange mock interview sessions, seminars, webinars, workshops for letting students be involved in the process. Also, hands-on training by the industry experts are the common arrangements provided to the students to make them placement ready. 


What do you think the students should focus on for the placement program?

“Potential growth and exposure”

Students must emphasize on overall growth if they are to be associated with an organization. They start with the day-visit programs and educational trips to industries and companies to acknowledge the environment. Industrial exposure in the form of internship in various organisations along with student skill based development sessions are the main focus for the placement programme.


What are the biggest challenges you see for maintaining the industry standards?

“Continuous updation of course structure”

The ongoing process of various upgradation, and updation of policies and processes within the industry is a big challenge to match up with. Also, regular revision of the syllabus along with the university and incorporating special industry oriented classes for students is a challenge.

How do you guide your students to survive in such a competitive scenario?

“Regular motivation and counselling”

With rising competition, the students should train themselves continuously with the latest industrial approaches and under the guidance of the BOS members to survive strongly in the competitive scenario. We provide counselling sessions in order to motivate them to live upto the requirement of the competitive market.
