SSIBM

Being a faculty of SSIBM, what are your responsibilities towards the students?

"To teach them in the best possible way and enhance their overall personality"

Being the faculty of the finance department and as a placement coordinator, my main responsibility is to clear concepts of students regarding subject topics and groom their overall personality by teaching them skills of formal dress sense and communication skills. In addition to this, I also guide them about verbal/non-verbal communication strategies and how to give interviews. I believe making students capable enough is very essential so that they can conduct themselves confidently while interacting with others in a large crowd. And Management is the field where we have to market ourselves in the market.

How do you maintain healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty?

"By taking to them with empathy, respect and resolving their queries"

To ensure a cordial relationship with students, I keep interacting with them and keep guiding them as and when required. And understanding students' family background by talking to them helps me a lot in resolving their personal issues. Basically I treat them like my friends to whom they can share all the issues and queries without any hesitation and fear. And we also offer scholarships to all those who are financially not so strong. In addition to this, we have a separate whatsapp group and over there also we give mentoring session thrice a week and same approach go with our faculty members.

How do you bring in a practical and industry oriented approach towards subjects?

"By teaching fundamental concepts of stock market to them in a deeper way"

To enforce a practical and industry oriented approach, I use concepts of stock market like spot market, durability of markets and how the prices are affecting. Everyday we all read different kinds of financial scam. But only watching these kinds of news in the newspaper will not benefit students in any way, they have to understand why these kinds of scams are happening and how they are impacting the economy of our country. And for analysing these kinds of issues, we teach stock market related concepts to our students. Apart from all these, we organise doubt sessions and expert sessions for them to have a healthy interaction between industry experts and them.

Which best practices are offered by your department to the students to help them gain necessary skills?

"Activities like visit to villages and awareness drives are arranged by us for them"

We have different kinds of extracurricular activities for our students, like in each semester we make a team of 10-15 students and ask them to do one activity and it might include things like educating the non-teaching staff in the campus, visiting village to teach the illiterate persons and conduct events on digital transformation awareness, road safety awareness and tree plantation etc.

How do you strategize and update the curriculum to make it benefitting for the students?

"We follow the University designed curriculum which already have latest programs and trainings"

We have been affiliated to Tumkur University and hence we follow the curriculum designed and updated by the University itself. And the University keeps updating the syllabus of subjects every 2 year to include the latest industrial requirements and business trends.

What are your views upon the placements and higher education of students from your department?

"Our students are placed in well reputed firm and this says it all"

Our department is doing well in terms of placements and higher education as the market is full of jobs if you are skilled enough in Marketing and Finance. Even after the covid scenario, the Marketing domain has more jobs compared to finance. Also we have an amazing network of Alumni who are working in companies like JP Morgan and KPMG and they help us a lot in bringing the best training and placement opportunities for students.

What challenges are you facing to uplift the education quality of your department?

"Communication barrier is there majority of students comes from different backgrounds"

The only thing which we struggle with is effective communication with our students as we can't use only English here in our campus to communicate with them. We have to mix English with their local language as they hail from the local places and regional areas. So, if we take the communication level to a higher level our students will perform well in the market.

What do you see as the college's greatest strengths and how can it be enhanced?

"Our courses, teaching techniques and faculty are our strength"

As per last year's admission statistics, only around 80-90 students took admission in our college, but this year we admitted around 120 students which is actually a good thing. Apart from this, 2 faculties of our department had received their Doctorate Degrees from the Visvesvaraya Technological University and one more faculty member has submitted her research paper and next year she will complete her PhD. Hence, in my opinion our faculties and quality of education we offer to our students makes us strong.

Any valuable advice which you would like to give to the students to have a prosperous career ahead?

"Study with full focus and keep learning new skills"

I would like to advise my students to keep learning new things and keep upgrading their skills. The PG programme is not a joke, where you can study and enjoy life at the same time. It's a professional course which demands undivided attention from students. In our country only 4-5% are going for this post-graduation course, so they should take it seriously in every point of their 2 years of spontaneous learning.
