Dr. Vijay Kaushik is the Dean (Academics) at the VIIT College of Technology and Management, Bulandshahr, UP. He holds a Ph.D. degree and has been a part of the VIIT group since 2003. Under his guidance, several colleges and departments have been established such as ITI and B.Ed College. Additionally, B.A, B.Com, and B.Sc departments were also set up since his arrival. His main responsibility lies in increasing the admissions and ensuring that the classes are being conducted properly.

How do you strategize for the marketing and administration of your college?

“Using print media and taking part in educational fairs has helped us”

We mostly advertise in newspapers. Our main medium of advertisement is print media. Apart from that, we conduct college fairs where consultants travel for 3-4 months continuously during June, July and August and visit villages to promote our institutes. The students can get government-funded scholarships and we take fees in 3-4 installments in a year.

How has COVID 19 impacted your institute?

“There has been a huge negative effect due to reluctance of rural students towards online education”

The students who come to our institute are from villages and they are against the concept of online education. Many students have dropped their plans to take admission this year. That’s why we had started the classroom training 3 months in advance. We started our classes from 1st Oct onwards and have been conducting labs and exams normally. The number of admissions this year was also less than the previous year.

What do you think should be the VIIT Group of Colleges’ top priority over the next 10 years?

“A venture towards medical education in various branches is our next priority”

We are looking for opportunities to begin mainstream medical courses. We have already established a Nursing course. Now we are looking to establish courses like Diploma in X-Ray Technology and Diploma in Medical Lab Technology. 

What has been your vision for the institute?

“To excel as a trustworthy engineering institute and broaden our horizons towards medical education”

When I started this college, my initial focus was only on Engineering courses and I was able to achieve that. Over time we started other courses as well and now the focus has shifted towards medical courses. The main agenda was to provide education and we see a lot of scope in this domain. After Covid, the awareness about the various medical-related jobs has increased. This year we have completed 100% admission in both our pharmacy course – B.Pharm and Diploma. 

What would you like people to know about your institute they may not know?

“Focus on simplicity, affordability and higher quality of education”

We provide an excellent education in a simple yet efficient manner. When students join our institute, they are modified into exceptional professionals. The parents also visit us and give positive feedback. Even if we may not have the best infrastructure, we don’t compromise on education quality. I personally take 2-3 rounds daily to check on the students and the faculty. Also, our books are priced reasonably, students can spend Rs 500 only and get books for the entire semester.

How does the curriculum of VIIT Group of Colleges ensure the best practice of industry?

“Implementation of modern teaching methodologies using brand new tools and technologies” 

We make sure that all the labs are equipped with the latest machines and latest technologies. We hire excellent staff and visiting faculty from other cities to train students. Institutional tie-ups and industry internships are also carried out.

What are some of the biggest challenges you see for higher education in times of COVID?

“Less number of seats were filled due to the pandemic and academic disruption was disheartening”

We were able to achieve only 40% of the admissions. Now we need to wait and watch how the admission for the next session goes. It is going to be a challenging situation, as the pandemic has instilled fear in people’s hearts.
