Dr. Prasenjit Chattopadhya is HOD at the College of Sree Chaitanya Mahavidyalaya. He is a Ph.D. holder from the University of Burdwan. He has experience of 21 years in teaching. He is an active member of the ongoing project Leaving India, Loving India-The Dynamics of Be/Longing, Angst & Anomie of Indian Diaspora Literature.

What are your roles and responsibilities towards the Students?

“We focus on the all-round development of a student”

Our institute - Sree Chaitanya Mahavidyalaya, plays a striving role in making higher education a pivotal point of ceaseless acquiring of knowledge and its dissemination and application in the day-to-day lives of the students. We ardently desire to see higher education playing a momentous role in sustainable academic, economic and social development by the means of our Teaching-Learning process.

How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty?

“I stay as friendly as I can with fellow faculty members and students”

What are the best practices offered by Sree Chaitanya Mahavidyalaya to the students which help them gain necessary skills?

“Link between the intellectual and educational role of the higher education institutes”

It is perceived as a mode to ameliorate the quality of life and address major social and global challenges. Higher education is broadly defined as one of the key factors of growth performance, prosperity and competitiveness. UNESCO says its social role provides the linkage between the intellectual and educational role of the HEIs - the colleges and the universities on one hand and the development of society on the other.

Do you have any extracurricular activities to enhance the skills of the students or expose them to real-world challenges?

“Sree Chaitanya Mahavidyalaya continuously endeavours to promote sports”

We have a large playground and a well-equipped gymnasium with state-of-the-art gadgets and instruments. These are maintained religiously. Our students have won a multitude of sports meets at the college level, district level and national level. The fields are football, yoga, kabaddi, etc. We are proud of the accomplishments and trophies earned by our students.

How does the curriculum of your department ensure the best practice of the Industry?

“Our college has a very dynamic and vibrant Career Development Cell”

Previously we have conducted a couple of programmes with TCS, the IT giant. A good number of students were given berth/wharf in their company via our CDC and the placement cell of TCS. The students who were recruited are happy, thriving in that concern and zealously looking for better positions in TCS or in any other similar concern. The point to which I want to put stress is that the students who have got this opening are not from any IT or IT-related background.

What do you see as the department’s greatest strengths and how it can be enhanced?

“We believe in providing exposure to students”

During the stalemate created by this fiendish pandemic, we were unable to get much leeway in the job market, which we hope to overcome soon after the pandemic is over.

Moreover, the Department of English and other departments of literature and languages are mulling to send their students as interns to different houses of news agencies and media.
