Dr. R. Durai Pandian has 24 years of experience in academia. He is presently working as a Professor at Saveetha School of Management (SSM), Saveetha University. He has expertise in Finance & Accounting, Entrepreneurship, and Information Systems. . Dr. R. Durai Pandian authored and co-authored more than 55 research papers in several peer reviewed journals such as SCOPUS/ABDC/Web of Science/ UGC Care. His credentials include 40 deliberations of research in national and international conferences and efficiently guided five Research Scholars who have been awarded doctoral degrees.

You are holding key positions at Saveetha School of Management throughout your professional career. What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

Teaching is my passion. Since completing my Ph.D., as a first full-time scholar at Alagappa Institute of Management, I’ve been associated with the education sector. As an educator, I don’t just teach students, I also have to keep upskilling and learning the current trends to enhance my ability and skills at par with the present generation of student community.

"Be focused and orderly in class and considerate in my behaviour towards all other members of the teaching community"

I take primary responsibility for my learning, in particular; to be self-motivated and self-directed in the management of my learning. 

Being the Professor of Saveetha School of Management, what is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?

"I would describe my leadership style as direct, and leading by example"

I enjoy delegating tasks and taking the lead on assigned tasks, but I also like to stay involved and inspire my team by showing that I’m working hands-on to help them, too.

Being the Academics Incharge of Saveetha School of Management, how do you ensure the curriculum, training, extra classes are being conducted and what is the specialty?

“Keeping close with the industry”This is something we always explore and keep innovating. Our curriculum is a blend of academic theory and industry practices. We use business simulations, real-time case studies, live projects, and other pedagogical practices to make sure our students are well equipped to become industry managers and leaders. Saveetha School of Management focuses on many areas namely social experiential learning program, research, hybrid learning, Innovation, entrepreneurship, and analytics. 

What do you think should be Saveetha School of Management’s top priority over the next 10 years?

We have to focus on 

  • Infrastructure - personality development lab, communication lab
  • Developing and creating bench mark like centre of excellence in entrepreneurship, innovation centres, international collaborations, onsite industrial collaboration.
  • Faculty development programme and Enhancement courses for faculty
  • Database should be improved and providing a world class E-learning Centre for students and research scholars.

What would you like people to know about the SSM that they may not know?

It is a great place to work, the best environment to be associated with. For students, one of the best business schools, where they can experience the blend of best practices of industry and academics. What do you see as the Saveetha School of Management’s greatest strengths and how can they be enhanced?

Saveetha ensures quality of Education to the students through a strong and updated curriculum by incorporating recent developments. It build rapport with students, continuous efforts to track the progress of the students and counselling is offered at regular intervals through mentoring system and also ensure better infrastructure and high academic reachability with the limited strength which is maximum of 30 students in a class. 

As far as students are concerned, a change in mindset is the required skill. They have to quickly adapt, reskill rather upskill and face the challenges. Given the current trends, students must learn fast to adapt to the changes imposed on us by COVID, or any future shock events.

SSM offers a Two Years Full Time MBA programme in Trimester Pattern. In six Trimesters 32 Management subjects are covered.
