Appointed as the Pro-Vice Chancellor of Amity University Kolkata, Prof. Ankita Chakravarty has more than 10 years of experience in the education industry. She started her journey with the corporate world, and realised that education was the field she wanted to work for. She strongly believes in Women Empowerment and has worked on various related projects at national and international level.

In conversation with Anjali, she shares her views on the education industry in India and talks about Amity University and its USP. Edited excerpts: 

Thoughts on the education industry and what makes it the best!

Many aspects make the education industry the best to work with. While I learned a lot from the corporate world, but the satisfaction to teach young minds, to nurture their talent is immense in this sector. It is this industry that gives us the opportunity to shape the young minds to serve our society in a better and a healthy way.

By and large, I believe in democratic leadership, where all team members are involved in decision-making. As a leader, I would hold the final responsibility, but the team must be allowed to pour in their creativity, intelligence with hone and must be treated through fairness. 

In today’s work life, especially in our kind of industry where the nature of team can differ from time to time. It may be handling a group of students or maybe teachers or maybe non-teaching faculty, so a democratic leadership must be blended with strategic leadership style wherein the need for responsibility, need for practicality can be identified and implemented.

Suggestions to the current youth

We all are a witness of West now looking up to East, in every area. I would suggest the youth of this nation to recognise and feel proud of their country. They must accept and welcome the practices, the vast knowledge and resources available in this country. Make all this, your strength and become more and more job-creators; not job seekers.

Respect your parents and elders-blessings, they are true power and success force in one’s life. Make the nation free of prejudices, negativities, and crimes. Education is much mightier, use to create India a superpower, where the softness lies in every heart.
