Raisa Begum is a faculty member at Chennais Amirta Institute of Hotel Management. She has a Master of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics from Osmania University and is also a Gold Medalist. She is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in English Literature. She has an overall experience of 8 years with 6 years in Teaching and 2 years as a Consultant Dietician and an Area of Interest in Food Science & Nutrition. She is an enthusiastic and prudent educator with an assiduous approach to teaching with ardor by designing and mentoring classes as per the skills and learning levels of students using scores of teaching techniques to foster quality education and enable holistic development.

What are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

Multifaceted, to mentor, search out and construct a meaningful educational experience that enhances the student's abilities so that they carve a niche for themselves in whichever field they choose. 


How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty?

Effective communication, Positive attitude & understanding of students through their perspective, by assuming the best in everyone. Effective teaching modes using adequate verbal and non-verbal skills, audio & video modes, by encouraging independent thinking..etc. 


How do you help your student to cope up with the competition being so high in the outside world?

By giving them real time examples, practical expectations and practical consequences, by making them understand that failure in any aspect is not the end of anything.

What are the challenges you faced to uplift the quality of education of the Nutrition department?

The communication skills of students should be improved, mannerisms should be worked on, and improved Interpersonal skills of the students as well.


How does the curriculum of Chennais Amirta International Institute of Hotel Management college ensure the best practice of the industry? 

The curriculum for the Nutrition subject is better now as compared to the last year, by using student directed approaches using multiple techniques as mandated. And also, practical approaches as per Industry standards and it is a great thing that industry standards are involved.


Do you have any extracurricular activities to enhance the skills of the students?

Industrial Visit trips, Guest lectures, Workshops, Conferences, and practicals on nutritive aspects of foods and how they could impact your health. Such activities will improve their skills and also students will start getting to know more externally.

What are the interventions and approaches you bring in apart from the curriculum to train/teach the students? 

"Eat a Nutritious Diet mostly if not all the time"

Firstly, explaining to them the relevance of the Nutrition subject in relation to the Hotel industry , giving real-life examples, and sharing my own experience in the industry wherever appropriate.
