Dr.Avon Kumar Vaid is the Principal of Amritsar Law College. His areas of interest are Law of Contract, Constitutional Law, Administrative Law and Law relating to Intellectual Property Rights. Dr.Vaid has 35 paper presentations and 10 published papers at the national level and international level on contemporary legal and social issues to his credit. 

What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

“Going past the web of ignorance and bringing about changes”

It is a great irony that law students pay a lot of money to learn what everyone should have the right to know for free. The most Orwellian part of the story is that the state expects us to obey the law, whether we know it or not. Legal literacy in India ranges from absolute ignorance to utter confusion. This factor has kept me connected with the education sector as it has become my responsibility to make a significant contribution to impart legal knowledge, which everyone should have the right to know. I dedicated myself to contribute more and more to create awareness of legal knowledge among people.

What is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?

“Acknowledge and appreciate the efforts”

Our leadership style is rooted in a strong set of values and principles. If we remain committed to our goals, we will be more likely to motivate and inspire our employees regularly. All staff members should feel like they are part of a great team that works together for the success of our students. Teachers should be valued and respected for their knowledge of and experience with students. The students are the most important members of our community. Under the appropriate conditions and with the appropriate strategies, all students can and will learn.

How does the curriculum of Amritsar Law college, Amritsar ensure the best practice of the Legal field?

“Our students are ready-to-use lawyers”

We consider the changes needed across the legal education system so that implementations of the framework and related standards can more readily occur. Many educators and advisory groups emphasize high standards as an important factor in improving the quality of education for all students. During the study, we provide them with educational tours, moot-courts, seminars, conferences and various court visits (lower court, District Courts, High Courts and Supreme Court) and parliament visits. We mainly focus on practical and case law based teaching. 

What do you think should be the Amritsar Law College’s top priority over the next 10 year?

“Bridging the gap between classroom and courtroom”

Many of our plans are today a reality. We understand that education and especially legal education needs to be dynamic. It needs to cope with the rapid changes in society. For the coming years, we lay down following goals in our journey towards excellence-

  • Starting more numbers of autonomous diplomas and certificate courses.
  • Holding Seminars/ Conferences/ Workshops/ Panel Discussions on prominent legal issues.
  • Active involvement of students in legal aid centres.

Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?

“Work smart and hard”

The academic study of law will give you an insight into the legal systems on which much of our day to day life is based. You will gain a broad and thorough understanding of the subject. It is important to make plans and have a schedule that you stick to. Stay on track or ahead in the reading. Teach yourself the law before you go to class.
