Shri Sumit Chakraborty is the Founder of R3S College of Education, Kolkata, West Bengal. He comes from a family with highly experienced and educated teachers. And he has done MBA as part of his academics and immediately after finishing his graduation he joined the education sector to teach students and has also helped others to establish and run various Institutions. He established Rabindra Shiksha Sammilani Samity in 2003, in memory of his father, Late Rabindra Mohan Chakraborty and the roots of Rabindra Shiksha Sammilani Law College was sown in 2008 after getting affiliation and approval from Bar Council of India and the University of Calcutta and since its inception college is providing best law education to aspirants. Later in the year 2015, he established R3S College of Education as a Teacher’s Training College, with the approval of NCTE, New Delhi. Another venture which he has established in 2020 is Rabindra International School.

What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

"Happiness I receive when I see my students becoming successful is the biggest factor"

Belonging from a family who are associated with the education sector, it was a no brainer for me to be a part of this sector and continue with the age old legacy. It instills a sense of pride when I feel that I have played an important part in building one’s career and seeing them reaching new heights all over the world.

What is your philosophy of leadership?

"Leaders are direct, lead by example and Know how to utilize team skills to achieve shared goals"

I would describe my leadership style as direct and I believe in leading by example. A leader is always focused towards his/her end goals and holds the capability to motivate others in the worst time also. And the same approach I follow in my institute while dealing with people of different mindset and skills and I always ensure my support and guidance remain available to my team in need. Lastly, I believe that leaders are the pillars for the success of any organization and without strong leaders, a team cannot succeed no matter how good they are.

In your experience, what benefits students can gain from studying here in your college?

"They will get amazing law education and industrial exposure here in our college"

In my opinion, foreign education is mostly project based and several industry people educate and train the overseas students. On the other hand, our Indian education system is mostly theory based and we emphasize less on practical or project based learning. Although our university is improving in leaps and bounds every year, we still have a long way to go. And if I talk about R3S College, we prepare our students by conducting lectures on basic Indian Culture apart from training them in typical law education in order to bridge the gaps between what society demands and skills our people have.

How does the curriculum of your college ensure the best practices of industry?

"It instill best technical and social skills in students and also developed in accordance with industry experts inputs"

The curriculum of our college is capable enough of imparting instructions in advanced learning law and legal processes, developing professional skills and competencies in students, encouraging research based learning attitude in students to help them find out new truths and relationships amongst existing truths. In addition to this, we regularly update it in accordance with evolving educational trends and technologies so that we can deliver relevant and up-to-date knowledge to youths and aspirants. And we also impart a sense of social and professional responsibility in students so that they can help others in the best possible way. Lastly, involvement of industry people in its designing and review phases ensure best practices of industries in it.

The faculties and Legal Interface Committee of our college work continuously to improve the job profiles of our students and also helps and guide them to grab good opportunities as Practicing Advocates, Solicitors and Legal Officers in various law firms.

We have built world class infrastructure and ensured all kinds of facilities which are required for students personal and professional growth should be available to our students. And as we all know that infrastructure nowadays plays an important role and helps in developing world class students by enlarging their vision and aspirations. So our college infrastructure, ambiance and our highly qualified and experienced faculty members who transform our students into competent professionals and industry leaders are the biggest source of our strength.

Any suggestions which you would like to give to the current youth and aspiring students?

"Conduct a thorough research about college, its faculties and programs before joining any college"

I would like to advise students and youths of our society to do proper research before joining any college or university to pursue their dream courses, because people nowadays are busy in making money only and focusing less on offering quality education to youths. So, carefully analyze the faculties qualifications and infrastructure of the college and invest in that college which can give wings to your dreams. Also make best use of social media but don't get addicted to it.
