Dr P. Manikandan is the Principal of BSD College of allied health sciences. He has been part and parcel of the success story of BSD College of allied health sciences since 2019. He is an orthopaedic Physiotherapist and alternative medicine doctor. He studied and worked in Malaysia and various parts of India. He is now a technocrat and an educationist with leadership experience in the education industry.

What is your philosophy of leadership?

“Provide others with the chance to develop and share responsibility for achieving goals”

Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other. Leaders need to provide leadership opportunities for others to faster growth and share responsibility for attaining goals. Effective leaders communicate promptly and listen to the concerns and ideas of the group. BSD always believes in 360- degree feedback and encourages employees through positivity, training, and motivation.

What are the opportunities available in your college to gain industry-specific knowledge?

“Enhancing existing skills in academic and personal domain with specific training”

Outside the standard framework of any educational curriculum, there are endless opportunities for students. They can learn new skills and ignite dynamic passions. Also, develop and encourage their existing skills in cultural, sports, academic and personal developments.

How do you tend to establish a healthy environment in your institute?

“Allowing students to discuss both academic and non-academic problems without fear”

In our college, both management and the principal maintain a student-friendly atmosphere. The students can approach them easily for their grievances. Besides this, the principal conducts a class committee every month to interact with students personally. Students can boldly tell their problems, both academic and non-academic.

What valuable advice would you like to give the students for a prosperous career ahead?

“It is essential that students choose a field of study they are passionate about”

The students should be passionate in whatever field they choose to study. It should not be from intuition or just because his/her friend has chosen or their parent’s advice. He/she should understand the strengths and weaknesses. For example, if one is not good enough or not interested in Mathematics, then Engineering is not their cup of tea. Similarly, one who is afraid of seeing a cadaver or blood, cannot dream for MBBS. On the other hand, they should be polite and obedient to their parents, teachers, and elders. 

How do you strategize the curriculum?

“Including experiential learning along with regular interactive sessions with top educators”

We are becoming a centre of excellence by improving research, promoting entrepreneurship and more. We have also become the Centre of excellence in Entrepreneurship to resolve un-employability in the nation. We are following the evidenced-based methods of teaching and providing equal weightage to theory and practical sessions. We are conducting conferences and workshops for the development of student’s careers.

What do you think should be the institute’s top priority over the next 10 years?

“Providing advanced technology knowledge of the highest quality”

BSD College of allied health sciences was established in 2019 and it is affiliated under the Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University. It is located in the vicinity of Coimbatore city and headed by eminent doctors. The aim of our institution is to deliver a high standard of knowledge on advanced technology to our students. The motto of our institution is “To serve the needy by educating the health care professionals''. 

Do you have any programs to enhance the skills of the students?

Our college offered undergraduate courses for the students and provided them real-world experiences through various tie-ups with hospitals. Our Courses are: 

  • B.Sc. Cardiac technology
  • B.Sc. Radiography and imaging technology
  • B.Sc. Medical laboratory technology
  • B.Sc. Physician assistant
  • B.Sc. Operation theatre and anaesthesia technology

BSD College has an OPD hospital on the college campus itself and has tie-ups with various speciality hospitals like KJ, Prema, pragathee, Balaji, SMF, Dr Raja hospital, etc. We are the only college having tie-ups with CMC government hospital, Coimbatore for the students training.

How do you ensure the overall development of the students in your college?

“By providing best infrastructure, academic facilities and top educators”

We focus on ensuring all-round performance by the students, and we are trying to provide all the best class facilities to all our students in the college. 

Some of the facilities offered by the college are:

  • Library - The library has a seating capacity for about 100 people. It houses over 1,000 volumes of books on various disciplines.
  • Sports and Fitness space - Gymnasium is available for daily use and students can use the indoor and outdoor stadium for sports.
  • Hostels - Accommodation is available for about 1000 students with facilities for their convenience with a pleasant atmosphere.
  • Miscellaneous Facilities - Auditoriums, Seminar Halls, Laboratories, Canteen, Counselling Centre, Medical Facilities, are the other facilities available here.
