Prof (Dr) Jatindra Nayak is the Chairman of Dr. Ambedkar Institute of Pharmaceutical Science (DAIPS), Rourkela, Odisha. He has completed his B.E., LLB, MBA, M.Phil and Ph.D. He started tutoring kids at a young age and is a passionate educationist. He aims to uplift the standards of the backward communities with help of quality education. As part of Philanthropy and social work, he has established technical, paramedical, vocational, and general educational institutions with an objective to provide “education to all”. He has been recognized and awarded for his contributions to the education sector. These include the Rashtriya Gaurav Award, Bharat Jyoti award and Melvin Jones fellow.

What is your philosophy of leadership?

A leadership that actively seek the ideas and unique contributions of the employees”

Leadership to me is driving and motivating a team towards a common vision. My style of leadership is quite democratic, where everybody is encouraged to participate and share their opinions. This type of leader views their key role as serving employees as they explore and grow, providing tangible and emotional support as they do so


How do you plan the marketing and administration of your Institute?

“Focussing on building our strengths and choosing the right manpower for various operations”

We constantly upgrade our programmes to be relevant not only to the current market requirements but also to the latest upcoming trends. It gives our students an edge in the competitive job market. It is very important to be nimble in this regard to provide the most relevant learning to our students. For marketing, we rely largely on the quality of our programmes to do the bulk of the talking. We take regular feedback from our students to understand their needs.


What can an inbound student gain from studying here in your Institute?

How does the curriculum of DAIPS ensure the best practice of industry?

“Special courses, campus recruitment training, internships and projects are part of the curriculum to be delivered”

We strictly follow the curriculum developed by the university. To enhance practical learning for our students, we have tie-ups with the industry. Under these collaborations, we conduct study tours, industrial visits, guest lectures, soft skills training and placement assistance sessions. We also plan to introduce value-added courses to equip our students with corporate skill sets.


How does your Institute help students from various socio-economic backgrounds?

We are managed by a charitable trust. Our fees are nominal, and we also offer part payments and instalment options to parents. We offer additional financial support to the poor meritorious students. We also have active committees in the college to ensure everyone is treated in a fair and equal manner.


When you first started DAIPS, what was your vision for the Institute? 

“To provide education to the aspiring students of nearby Tribal and Rural areas”

We began with the objective of making quality education accessible to ambitious individuals in the tribal and rural areas in the vicinity of the college. With this institute, we play an active role in transforming their lives. To a certain extent, we have made progress having impacted 6,000+ families positively.


What would you like people to know about your College they may not know?

“Activities of social and cultural importance are organized for student’s holistic growth”

There are a plethora of activities beyond academics that we organize to shape the development of our students. These include regular seminars, workshops, industrial visits, study tours, soft skills training and placement assistance through an active placement cell. We conduct a lot of Community service like Swachta drives, Mask distribution, Tree plantation etc. These activities inculcate a mindset of caring towards the environment and society.

How do you tend to establish a healthy environment in your institute?

“We try to bridge the gap between students and faculty through regular interactions”

Regular interactions with parents, students and teachers help us in this regards. We have active committees to ensure compliance with Government guidelines. We also encourage student participation in the functioning of crucial clubs, Social events and college gatherings. Eventually, creating an atmosphere where all stakeholders can express their opinions and feel valued.
