Dr.R. Meenakshi is a Vice Principal and Head of Physics Department in the Chevalier T.Thomas Elizabeth College For Women, Chennai. She did M.Sc, M.Phil, and Ph.D. She worked as a Chairman in U.G Board of studies at University of Madras. Her interested areas are Spectroscopy and she worked on research thesis Experimental and Theoretical Spectroscopic. She is a member of the Board of Studies in various autonomous colleges. She published 5 research papers in international journals.

Being a Faculty of the campus, what are your roles and responsibilities toward the students?

“To guide pupils in academics and motivate students in cocurricular activities”

My role is to not only be an educator, but also act as counselor. Some of my responsibilities include guiding students in academics and motivating students in co curricular activities. I want to make students gain knowledge, good values and traditions to become a good citizen of the country.

How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty in Chevalier T.Thomas Elizabeth College For Women, Chennai?

“Follows emphatic approach, impartial attitude and being supportive on campus”

Impartial Attitude and Emphatic Approach assist to build healthy relations on campus. We always assist in being supportive and respectful in all aspects. 

How do you try to bring in a practical approach to subjects and make it industry-oriented?

“Arrange field visits, industrial exposures and free certificate courses to students”

We offer free certificate courses, arrange Industrial and Field visits to pupils. Our management gave suggestions to the University to revise the syllabus as per the need of the Global Scenario.

What are the best practices offered by the department to the students which help them gain necessary skills? 

“Develop technical skills, bank exam coaching, and software training for students”

We motivate students to develop technical and communication skills for students. They need to Attend courses like Aptitude Test, Competitive Exams coaching, Bank exam coaching and Software training through NME ICT Tools and English for Workplace.

What are your views on the placements and higher education for the students from Chevalier T.Thomas Elizabeth College For Women, Chennai?

“Encourage students to appear for national level exams and give placement opportunities”

We give placement orientation from the first year and expose them to campus recruitments through Placement Cell in the final year. Faculties encourage students to appear for NGPE Exams, JAM Exam and PG entrance Exam at University Level.

How do you help students to cope up with the competition so high in the outside world? 

“Develop values and skills of students through our courses”

During the course period, we set the Values and Skills among students. It is made possible through different Programmes organized on campus. 

Do you have any extracurricular activities/programs to enhance the skills of the students or expose them to real-world challenges?

“Provide competitions, cultural fest and team works for pupils from our campus”

Students are given opportunities to participate in competitions held at intercollegiate level. We help the students to engage with peers from diverse backgrounds and develop empathy. Working as a team enables the students to gain more self-confidence, autonomy, and appreciation for differences in others’ views.

What are the interventions and approaches you bring in apart from curriculum to train the students?

“Organize group activities, peer discussions and other activities for students”

Conducting group activities based on current issues enabling the students to listen, respond and consider their peer’s difference of opinion. We develop scientific temper in students by discussing days of scientific importance and biography of scientists.
