Kritika Verma, Director of Mother Teresa Law College Jabalpur, graduated from the Indian Institute of Management Indore in 2016. After working for IBM India Pvt.Ltd. for 2 years, she decided to join Mother Teresa Law College to give her services in the education sector. She brings a fresh perspective to the Management team and is working on modernizing the pedagogies by balancing academics and extracurricular activities.

What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

”The thought of motivating and inspiring young minds”

I feel obliged and honored to be able to shape young minds and prepare them for a better tomorrow. Nothing makes you love your profession more, than holding the capability to make other’s lives meaningful. I believe that Education is the first step towards leading a fulfilling life and continuous learning is the only way to grow in life. Playing this pivotal role is very inspiring to me and seeing our students succeed is the best fruit of my hard work.

Being the Director of Mother Teresa Law College, what is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?

“Democratic leadership is the way forward”

Open discussion and communication is my style of working as a Director. We discuss every decision to make sure that it is the very best for our students and for the college. We face every hurdle together as a team to learn the importance of belongingness and togetherness. We, therefore, believe in democratic leadership.

How do you strategize about the key programs and plans for the marketing and administration of your school?

“Focus on the right audience is the marketing strategy to be followed”

Understanding market dynamics is very crucial to reach the right audience. There are quite a few factors that play an important role in marketing. We follow the segmentation and targeting approach, which we continuously evolve based on national standards and market demand.

The education systems in India and other foreign countries are structured very differently. In your experience, what can an inbound student gain from studying here in your institute?

“The approach to increase practical learning rather than theoretical education”

The college specifically focuses on experiential learning to provide the practical enhancement of the qualities within a student. This is therefore the best approach in various international universities that we have tried to initiate at our college too. This actually brought a positive approach to the students to be prepared for their profession. This is a major differentiating factor that makes our students stand out. We regularly organize Court visits, Moot courts, etc. to correlate bookish knowledge with practical skills.

What do you think your roles and responsibilities to the Institute and the students are?

“To stand by the words of providing the very best of education to the students”

Providing the best facilities and pedagogies to the students is the most important responsibility I hold towards students while ensuring the most judicious use of resources to enable students' success, is my responsibility towards the Institute.

What are some of the biggest challenges you see, both for higher education in general and for Mother Teresa Law College specifically?

“The hurdles that every individual faces either by family or circumstances”

A major challenge that I experience is the dropout rate in courses like Ll.B. Either the students are not highly invested, or their families do not support them enough, which leads to such decisions. We are regularly working to curb this and educate people of the glorious opportunities that lie ahead, in order to motivate them to complete their degrees.

What is your learning from the pandemic and how are you dealing with the situation?

“The establishment of virtual learning is the new normal to be accepted gracefully”

The major shift that the current pandemic has made in the education sector is the online mode of learning for the students. We have therefore created a different department for virtual management of all the classes and lectures for each student. We are giving our best shot to make this hard time to go smooth with the online platform learning. We are managing very well in the new system with support from our faculty and students. We definitely are more agile now, and open to adopting new systems.

Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?

“Awareness is the only initiation to succeed in your career”

My only suggestion is that one should try to have a clear picture of one's goal in order to find his/her way, and this clarity will come through exposure and awareness. So try to be aware of the current world scenario, to form your own opinion, and know where you want to be.

How do you tend to establish a healthy relation and environment in your institute?

“Open communication and healthy relations work hand in hand”

  • We have a very friendly and open culture at our Institute with an 'Open door' policy.
  • There have never been issues of student distress and we try our best to resolve any issues through open communication. 
  • We also have a grievance redressal council that can be approached in case of any difficulty.
