Delhi University (DU) will begin the Second Phase of Open Book Exam (OBE) today that is slated to be held from September 14-October 1. 77% of the total registered students opted for online mode of OBE. Read details below.
Delhi University (DU) has begun the Second Phase of Open Book Exam (OBE) today that will continue till October 1, 2020.
DS Rawat, officiating Dean (examination), Delhi University, reported, on a total of 12,780 registrations, 2,000 are from affiliated colleges and Non-Collegiate Women’s Education Board (NCWEB) while 10,780 are School of Open Learning (SoL) students.
He added, “While 9,467 students will take the exam in online mode, only 3,313 have chosen to appear physically. Regular students and those enrolled with the NCWEB will visit their respective colleges and departments to appear in the exams physically. The DU SoL students have been allotted centres located in different areas across the city.”
The Phase-II exams of DU will be conducted in both online and offline modes. Meanwhile, visually impaired students of DU reached the national capital by Sunday, as the exams were scheduled from September14.
Delhi University students appearing in OBE, Second Phase
Around 13,000 students of DU registered for the second phase of open book exams. As per Dean of Colleges, DU, Professor Balaram Pani, about 10,000 students will take the exams in online mode from their homes. This makes up to 77% students taking OBE in online mode.
Meanwhile, the other 3,000 DU students chose to appear in exam centres for offline exams. In the second phase, students were permitted to take exams either in online mode or at the designated exam centres.
Earlier, Delhi University conducted the first phase of OBE from August 10-31 for final year students of UG and PG courses. The second phase is only held for students who could not appear in the first phase.
DU OBE: 250 Exam Centres for Phase 2
As per latest updates, Delhi University has arranged for 250 exam centres across the country for students to appear in the second phase of OBE.
Seating arrangements were already sent to students in order to avoid overcrowding at the entrance gates in the time of COVID-19 pandemic. To be specific, 3,313 have opted for taking exams in exam centres who supposedly have issues with digital connectivity.
SoL students have been allotted Deshbandhu College, Deen Dyal Upadhayay (DDU) College, Shaheed Rajguru College of Applied Sciences for Women, Shaheed Bhagat Singh College and Shyama Prasad Mukherji College for Women (Girls), apart from three other SoL centres.
Payal Mago, Principal, Shaheed Rajguru College, the college will hold exams in two shifts on Monday. She added, “In the first shift we are expecting only seven students. But in the second shift, around 150 students will take the exam on Monday.
We are ready with all the arrangements. We have also procured oximeters to have a quick check on students before they enter the exam centres.”
As per Rajiv Agarwal, Principal, Deshbandhu College, the college is expecting 80 students to appear on Monday. “We have an exam only in the second shift tomorrow. We procured face masks, gloves and sanitising lotions.
We have kept boxes in each room for students to keep their answers scripts after completing the exams. We are making efforts to make it a contactless exam,” he said.
Regulations for DU OBE Phase 2
As a fact, students who will appear for exams in offline mode, are required to bring their own answer sheets and writing objects. The seating arrangements were already provided to those students in advance.
Last week, Delhi University released a detailed advisory for COVID-19 precautions during exams. Additionally, students signed self-declaration forms to enter exam centres. The principals of colleges said that they will sanitise their campus premises before students will arrive on Monday.
The university also instructed affiliated colleges to strictly maintain social distancing norms and all possible sanitisation processes. Students have to carry their own gadgets like mobile phones or laptops to download question papers, masks, gloves, sanitisers and transparent water bottles.
