December 14, 2021: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has recently collaborated with the Indian Air Force (IAF) to work jointly towards the improvement and acceleration of IAF's indigenization efforts.

Under this collaboration, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi will work with the Indian Air Force (IAF) to find solutions for the sustenance of various weapon systems. 

The key area of the agreement will revolve around the development of technology and supporting the requirements of the Indian Air Force. The collaboration mail goal is to achieve self-reliance and support the IAF’s indigenization efforts.

Referring to the initiative, IIT Delhi said, “Under the ambit of the MoU, the IAF has identified key focus areas involving technology development and finding indigenous solutions towards the sustenance of various weapon systems”.

“IIT-Delhi will provide cooperation and consultancy, duly supported by research, for feasibility studies and prototype development,” the institute added in a statement issued.

The MoU was signed by the Air Vice Marshal Samir V Borade VSM, Deputy Senior Maintenance Staff Officer (Dy SMSO), Headquarters Maintenance Command, IAF, and Prof. M R Ravi, Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Delhi.

IITs Placement Season Starts From December 2021 

During the collaboration event, the officials stated that with this partnership, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi will not only support IAF but will also provide cooperation, consultancy, and various development facilities. 

The partnership between IIT Delhi and Indian Air Force will boost the relationship between both the parties and efforts by Base Repair Depots (BRDs) of Maintenance Command IAF. 

“IIT Delhi’s contributions are expected to further accelerate the efforts by Base Repair Depots (BRDs) of Maintenance Command IAF, towards the IAF achieving sustenance capability, obsolescence management, indigenization, and achieving self-reliance,” IIT Delhi said. 

The statement further added that the collaboration will jointly boost and enhance the sustenance capability, obsolescence management, indigenization, and work towards achieving self-reliance.
