New Delhi: The eligibility requirements for candidates who are Overseas Citizens of India or Persons of Indian Origin (OCI/PIO) have been amended for the Joint Entrance Test, JEE Advanced 2023, by IIT Guwahati, which is the exam conducting authority.
As IIT Guwahati changed the eligibility criteria for JEE Advanced 2023, the OCI/PIO candidates are now eligible to apply for JEE Advanced without applying for JEE Main 2023. Further, the charge that is due from such candidates has been adjusted with the fee paid by the Indian citizens.
IIT Guwahati Statement on JEE Advanced 2023
On February 3, 2023, the Honourable Supreme Court of India issued its decision in Written Petition (Civil) No. 891/ 2021, Anushka Rengunthwar & Ors. Vs. Union of India & Ors. The Joint Admission Board, 2023 addressed the verdict's implications during its emergency meeting on March 6, 2023.
As a result, the JEE (Advanced) 2023 Information Brochure has undergone certain revisions. The Overseas Citizen of India/Person of Indian Origin (OCI/PIO) candidates' eligibility requirements will stay the same as previously declared, which means they will be qualified to apply for JEE (Advanced) 2023 without applying for JEE (Main) 2023.
This legislation shall be relevant only for the year 2023. The fees that the OCI/PIO needs to pay has also been revised and is at par with the fees paid by Indian citizens. The JEE (Advanced) 2023 qualifying OCI/PIO candidates will be eligible to compete for the Open category seats in the General (GEN) and GEN-Person with Disability (GEN-PwD) categories as appropriate during the seat allocation procedure for IITs.
Candidates who meet the requirements for the JEE (Advanced) 2023 exam and who are female OCI/PIOs are also eligible to apply for open female supernumerary seats in the GEN and GEN-PwD categories, as appropriate.
