New Delhi: According to The Hindu, the National Board of Accreditation (NBA), New Delhi, has granted accreditation status to five B.Tech programs offered by the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Calicut for a period of six years.

The accreditation is for B.Tech programs in the specializations of civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical and electronics engineering, electronics and communication engineering, and computer science and engineering during the 2022-2023 to 2027-28.

Any program of study at an institute can only be accredited for a maximum of six years. The other accreditation category is for a period of three years only. The duration of the accreditation was decided in an inspection conducted in November 2022 by an expert group made up of 11 senior professors from prestigious institutions around the nation.

According to NIT Calicut Director Prof. Prasad Krishna, the university is one of the few institutions in the nation to accomplish the achievement in the Tier-I category of NITs and deemed universities. The parties involved in this achievement, including members of the BOG, FC, and BWC, Deans, HoDs, Registrar, Joint and Asst. Registrars, Faculty Members, Staff, Students, and Alumni, have been congratulated by Prof. Prasad Krishna, Director (Additional-charge). The Director congratulated the parents and employers of the graduates and thanked them for their assistance in the accreditation process in order to reach this goal.

Prof. PS Sathidevi, the Deputy Director of NIT Calicut and Chair of the Center for Quality Assurance and Improvement, stated that the academic calibre of the programs the institute offers is being improved. To guarantee that the highest standards of academic and research quality were maintained, she said, regular academic audits were carried out.
