AR
Akshita Rawat Posted On : January 18th, 2022
studied Psychology at Ambedkar University Delhi

Ambedkar University and Delhi University both have different visions and different approaches towards teaching. You will get good faculty at both universities. So, it’s not fair to compare these institutes.

The major difference between the two institutes is that at Ambedkar University the course structure and syllabus get updated every semester based on the interest of the faculty and students. While DU is more traditional in terms of academics and exams.

What is the minimum cutoff for admission in Delhi University?

SK
Sonia Kashyap Posted On : October 26th, 2021
studied M.A in English from Hindu College, University of Delhi (2021)

The cut-off depends on your choice of course and college. It varies every year and it can be as high as 99% and as low as 40%.

To give you a rough idea of DU Cut off, you require at least 94% marks for admission to science subjects. For commerce stream courses like B.Com, you must have scored 94% in the top 4 subjects including a language.

On the other hand, the cut-off for Humanities subjects must be between 90-92%. If you are interested in doing Hindi (Hons) or Sanskrit (Hons), the cut-off is very low for these programs. You can easily get a seat at St.Stephens with 66% marks in Sanskrit (Hons).

For South Campus, you can reduce 2-3% from the ones mentioned above. Take a look at the previous year’s DU cut-off for better understanding.

Which one is the better option, a BBA from DU or from IIM Rohtak?

MR
Mukund N Rao Posted On : January 10th, 2023
Studies at Indian Institute of Management Rohtak (Expected 2024)

Many people consider DU as a better option especially if it’s any of the top 3-4 colleges. Yet I chose IIM Rohtak. Now I am going to list down reasons why one should choose DU or IIM Rohtak separately

Why one should go for DU

  • You end up saving more than 10 lakhs which is a big amount
  • The BBA course here is fairly new and promising
  • The location advantage one avail while studying DU is far better than Rohtak.
  • If one is sure that they can clear CAT

Why one should go for IIM Rohtak

  • If you are a non-math student and have zero interest in commerce
  • If you want to give one more chance CAT, you can give it after 3 years.
  • The additional 10 lakhs rupees becomes more like insurance for your seat reserved in IIM Rohtak. This will save you from taking a year drop and an additional year to work.

Now on the basis of the above points, you can make a decision that suits you the best.

Which is better, Ambedkar University Delhi or Delhi University?

RS
Reena Singh Posted On : January 24th, 2023
B.A(Hons) in Bachelor of Arts in English Literature with Honors, University of Delhi (Graduated 2015)

Here is a fair comparison between Delhi University and Ambedkar University Delhi:

DU

  • Depending on the college you will be attending, North-South and far-flung universities have their own aura, so geographical location is very important.
  • Considering the location, DU students are mobile. They are familiar with the best spots for exploring, shopping, traveling, drama, sports, DUSU election participation, and many other activities that take place separately in different colleges.
  • Free trips paid for by political parties are offered during elections as incentives to win over the support of young people. Celebrity visits from well-known singers and actors also help to make college days memorable.
  • To choose your college representatives and presence, you will have your own group of friends.
  • Department and course matters are important, and they are somewhat tolerant of absences.
  • Every semester, there is an exam once every six months.

AUD:

  • Kashmiri gate metro station is located in a geographically isolated area near old Delhi. Even in the neighborhood, this place is small.
  • Exams are given based on and decided by the teachers through presentations, term papers, written exams, open-book tests, and an assessment procedure that allows for creativity.
  • The courses are very engaging and require your full attention. You start learning here; understanding will take time.
  • Library, canteen, and computer lab are all available.
  • Professors expect you to attend college because they believe in you.
  • An annual function is held in a small town, and a dancing competition is combined with gazals or Sufi night.
  • Eminent personalities will enlighten you, not actors but professors and writers from various fields.

Which is better, Delhi University or Mumbai University?

MU
Manish Upadhay Posted On : May 12th, 2022
M.A. in English (Hons.) from Mumbai University, Kalina (2017)

Delhi University is a better option. It is a central university, while MU is a state university. DU receives humongous funding from the central government. Naturally, it stands much higher than any state university including MU. It offers better education, infrastructure, and research opportunities.

DU has hardly 100 affiliated colleges. So, it’s easier for the administration to make sure the education process is smooth. MU has over 1100 colleges. Handling so many colleges, hampers the fundamentals of education, at times.

Overall, DU is more organized and offers better education and learning opportunities.

What should I choose between Pondicherry University, JNU, DU for MA philosophy? Why? Which is more economical?

MLISC from University of Delhi (2021)

You should choose JNU for MA in Philosophy. It offers better learning opportunities. JNU is also the best economical choice. MA Philosophy from JNU costs only INR 654.

JNU has wonderful History, Aesthetics, and Sociology department. This is an advantage if you want your Philosophy course to be thoroughly interdisciplinary. The residential university life of JNU is a unique learning experience in itself.

At Delhi University, Environmental Studies is an AECC subject and compulsory for the first semester. The examination is not that tough. The question asked are related to the curriculum and the syllabus taught by the teachers. But students usually do not take these classes seriously. That’s why many times students find the examination difficult. If you follow the classes seriously, you can easily answer the questions.

What are the downsides of studying in Delhi University?

MK
Mansukh Kaur Posted On : September 24th, 2021
MA from Christ University

My cousin graduated from DU. According to her, there are many downsides to studying at DU. Here is what she shared with me.

  • 90% of the students are not aware of hostel life. There isn't any.
  • No hefty starting packages during placements.
  • No sports facilities for students without a sports quota. You might as well practice on the road or join a private gym.
  • Delhi's weather is smoggy as you know.

Accommodation is costlier than your education, no change in curriculum, no alumni active network. Hope this gives you an idea.

Is Delhi University overrated?

SN
Siddhi Neema Posted On : November 15th, 2022
Studied Bachelor of Commerce at University of Delhi

DU indeed is a spectacular university and is rightfully famous for its infrastructure, curriculum, and everything in general. But several things are a bit overrated like:

  1. Faculty: Despite many brilliant professors here, the faculty members are not much interested in teaching. Either they don’t have enough knowledge or don’t want to teach. That’s why students at DU have to resort to self-study.
  2. Infrastructure: The infrastructure of most of the colleges at DU is terrible. The buildings are in bad condition. The computer facilities are very lacking and Wi-Fi does not work in many places. Although some colleges are well-equipped.
  3. Hostels: The hostels of the colleges at DU have unreasonable rules that you will have to follow. One of them is the 7:30 pm rule. They are not allowed to install coolers even during days of extreme heat.
  4. Curriculum: The curriculum is completely theory-based and does not include much practical knowledge. Just after a few days of rote learning, you will be able to score fairly well.
  5. Fest: The fest culture is all a bit too overrated. There is too much glamour and a waste of time.
  6. Job opportunities: Students at DU face major challenges when it comes to placements. This is because reputed firms only visit top colleges like St. Stephens' and SRCC making it difficult for an average student. You need to have brilliant scores with a record of extracurricular activities to get placed. Or you have to opt for higher studies.

Despite its flaws, Delhi University is indeed one of a kind. The crowd here is versatile and you get to meet people from everywhere. The variety of extracurricular activities, clubs, and societies of DU will surely make your stay here. The colleges at DU have a lot to give, just be with the right people.
