Do students with CGPA's around 7.0 - 7.5 in BITS, Pilani get into good MBA schools in/outside India?

SD
Shruti Dasgupta Posted On : August 5th, 2023
Student at Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani

It is a bit difficult to get admission with this score, especially at an institute like BITS Pilani. Most students with lower CGPAs fail to satisfy the interviewers due to a lack of sufficient knowledge of the core subject. So it is better to find your interest in studying and attend the interviews with presence of mind and confidence.

Usually, the students at BITS opt for a dual degree program along with a Master’s in Economics, which will give them more opportunities. The bank companies are looking forward to the students from the economics branch who possess skills, and they mostly visit BITS Pilani. The offer package ranges from 11-14 lakhs per annum. Which is better- B.Tech CSE at NIT Surathkal OR BITS Pilani campus? My son got admission in both.

RT
Raktim Tarafdar Posted On : September 14th, 2023

Both the institutions are highly renowned and offer good education in the field of Computer Science Engineering.

BITS Pilani offers better campus life and overall growth opportunities. Both the institutions offer equally good research facilities. The total course fee for CSE at NIT Surathkal is INR 5,73,820 while at BITS Pilani, it is INR 21,15,600.

During the 2022 placement season, the CSE branch at NIT Surathkal recorded the highest package of INR 45 LPA. The data for 2023 placements isn’t available as of yet.

At BITS Pilani, during the 2023 placement season, 104 students were placed from the IT branch. The CTC range stood at INR 11-38 LPA. Thus, both the colleges offer good placements for Computer Science Engineers.

If fees is a factor of concern for you, choose NIT Surathkal. Otherwise, both the colleges are a great choice for a CSE degree, and you won’t regret choosing any of them.

I got 362 marks in BITSAT. Which is better, BITS, Pilani electrical or BITS, Goa CS?

AS

Well, assuming that your 1st preference is CS at Pilani. EEE at Pilani is arguably one of the most difficult branches out there. Based on the conversations I had with my friends from both the BITS campus, here is what I can tell you about the courses.

  • You generally have to compete with the top students on the Campus. Also, the EEE course material is not everyone's cup of tea.
  • The EEE placements are quite good, though not for everyone. There are more high pointers in EEE than in any other branch. Thus good companies prefer to hire from among those.
  • Placements might be better for CS at Goa, though in some other respects you might sell yourself short with this choice.
Parameters&n BITS Goa BITS Pilani
Tuition Fee 3.99 lakhs 4.45 lakhs
Placement Average 94% 95%
Average CTC INR 5 LPA INR 18.05 LPA
Highest CTC INR 1.40 Cr INR 45 LPA

So, if you want an easy life, better go for CS in Goa. Otherwise, choose EEE at Pilani.

Is a BITS Pilani MBA good or bad?

PS
Prateek Sharma Posted On : August 5th, 2023

The campus won’t play a major role in your future. It is based on the talent and skills of the student in the core subject. You should strive hard for a better future.

BITS Pilani is not good at placement when compared with other leading institutes in India like IITs and IIMs, but BITS is better than the third-grade institutes. So it is better to focus on your improvement in the subject rather than the college.

What are some lesser known facts about BITS PILANI?

NS
Navneet Singh Posted On : June 28th, 2023
Studied at Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani

Here are a few lesser-known facts about BITS Pilani

  • It is a very coveted engineering college but the insiders want to escape from the rigid environment here.
  • The majority of students pay little or no attention to their branches as they get placed in IT or consulting firms.
  • There is a massive communication gap between the faculty and students.
  • The classroom sessions are boring because of obsolete pedagogy or the communication gap between students and professors.
  • You get used to a highly rigid schedule sometimes with multiple tests and assignment submissions on a single day.
  • Super stressful days become normal after a while. Today I had four tests and one assignment submission. It’s a normal day.

Ultimately you will realize that joining BITS is not a cakewalk and requires huge sacrifices and the ability to stand immense pressure.

Why does BITS Pilani follow zero attendance?

PS
Prateek Sharma Posted On : July 3rd, 2023
studied at Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani

The primary reason why BITS Pilani decided to follow the zero attendance rule was to imply that education cannot be forced and should be a result of individuals' own interests and passions.

If someone is not willing to attend a particular class, he should be forced to do so because he will be attending it uninterested which defers the entire purpose of education. An uninterested student will affect the classroom ambiance and become a distraction for the faculty as well as interested individuals.

Here are a few justified reasons why some students prefer skipping classes

  • Students at BITS Pilani are responsible for organizing huge events like OASIS, BOSM, and APOGEE (Pilani Campus) that require a lot of time commitment making it difficult to attend classes.
  • Additionally, some students are inclined towards research work rather than theoretical knowledge and thus prefer skipping classes. Forcing them to attend classes will hamper their development in the field of their interests. BITS Pilani believes in giving students the space to identify their interests and flourish within them.
  • Students also prefer skipping classes because the speed of teaching is slow in the class and they prefer going through their friends' notes instead of spending 50 minutes.

BITS Pilani has come up with this policy because it believes that forced education might hamper one’s growth.

Are undergraduate students from BITS Pilani sent to foreign universities like IITs?

DR
Deepshikha Roy Posted On : March 31st, 2023
studied at Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani

If you are an undergraduate student at BITS Pilani who is interested in studying abroad, it is important to understand that not all universities offer this opportunity to their students. Even IITs, which are known for their international research collaborations, do not send all undergraduate students abroad. Here are some key points to keep in mind:

  • Research scholarships like DAAD and MITACS are available for IIT and BITS Pilani students who want to study abroad. These scholarships are highly selective and only a few students are selected each year.
  • IIT students may have an advantage when it comes to research internships because of their "spam the professor" culture. Many IIT students send out mass emails to professors requesting research internships, which can result in multiple opportunities for those who are persistent.
  • BITS Pilani has a different course structure than IITs, with a greater emphasis on all-around subjects and a cluster of core subjects in the third year. This means that students may not be eligible for research internships until after their fifth or sixth semester of study.
  • BITS Pilani also requires a short, compulsory internship after the fourth semester (called Practice School 1) and a six-month to one-year industrial internship (known as Practice School 2) in the fourth year. This can limit the amount of time that students have available to pursue research internships.

While some students may have more opportunities than others when it comes to studying abroad or pursuing research internships, this should not discourage you from pursuing your goals. By focusing on your academic achievements, building your network, and taking advantage of the resources available to you, you can increase your chances of success and achieve your dreams of studying abroad.

Can parents stay in BITS Pilani with students?

DJ
Deeksha Jayraj Posted On : July 29th, 2021
B.E. Computer Science, BITS Pilani, K. K. Birla Goa Campus (2020)

If you are mainly talking about the Goa or Hyderabad campus, you will not be able to let your parents stay with you. But, as far as the Pilani campus is concerned and you are from the city, you can stay with your parents.

However, it is advised not to think of doing something like this because if you are a day scholar, transportation will be a huge hassle for you. Even if you make pros and cons list, the pros will not be worth it.

A friend of mine also thought of doing the same but he switched to a hosteller after a year. You will learn new things in life when you stay at the hostel. You will get to learn how to live among people that you like and otherwise dislike.

Generally speaking, I have also heard of a few parents coming and staying for a span of two to three days to meet their children. But, let me tell you if you are thinking of parents staying with you on campus, that is probably not possible as most of us have never heard of such a case.
