Are there people who got selected in IIM Indore IPM with poor academics?

AS
Aakash Singhal Posted On : August 28th, 2021
B.Tech in Computer Science, Delhi Technological University (2019)

Absolutely, it is true. It has been seen that many students who have average academic scores are selected in IIM Indore for the IPM course. Basically, the selection is based on the criteria that include aptitude test score, personal interview, and written ability test for which the scores required are 50 percent, 35 percent, and 15 percent respectively.

The panelists in the interview can ask various questions related to the low academic score but if you can tackle the situation with some of the respectful reasons then there is a high possibility for your selection.

Lastly, we can say that despite your low academic score you can manage to get into IIM Indore for the IPM course by giving your best into the personal interview and written ability test.

Will poor marks in 12th (around 68%) and a drop year have any affect on IPM IIM Indore interview?

SU

Obviously, a low score may affect your interview but only a little. The key is to justify your low scores confidently and also answer any questions that are asked from your 12th syllabus.

Another way is to highlight your extra-curricular activities and achievements. Mention your other strengths but don’t lie about anything.

As far as the drop year is concerned I don’t think it will be much of a hurdle in your selection process because a major chunk of IPM students has taken a drop year. Still, you should be able to specify the reason for the same if asked.

Can I get into IIM Indore IPM if my 12th percentage was not good, i.e. around 85%?

PS
Prasad Sawant Posted On : January 4th, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Management Indore (Graduated 2020)

Minimum percentage required for an open category student is 60%. So considering your profile you have a high chance of getting into IIM Indore for IPM.

But the admission criteria of IPM Indore involves a composite score and a small part of it is 12th marks. The 2 parameters that are considered are

Aptitude Test Score- 65% weightage

Personal Assessment- 36% weightage

Your 12 marks come under the PA or Personal Assessment. But the weighting is very less. Maximum weightage is given to the interview that is conducted after shortlisting.

So you can easily compensate for your low 12th marks with higher marks in Aptitude Test and Personal Interview.

What is your review of IPM course at IIM Indore?

SR
Satvik Rastogi Posted On : January 3rd, 2023
Bcom (Hons) in Bachelor of Commerce with Honours, Shri Ram College of Commerce (Graduated 2020)

Every coin has two sides. Similarly, every college has its pros and cons. My review of the IPM course will list the pros and cons of IIM Indore and its IPM course. Fortunately, the pros overshadow the cons to a large extent

Pros

  • Early admission - The eligibility criteria of the IPM program allows students who have passed out of class XII/Higher Secondary or equivalent from schools across India to apply. So even a 12th pass-out gets the opportunity to get into IIM.
  • Comprehensive Curriculum - The uniqueness of the curriculum lies in the fact that it teaches many areas and not just management. The course is coveted by many due to its high rigor and worth.
  • Brand name - The IIM tag can be attached to an individual's profile right after the 12th without having to do a separate undergraduate course in any other field of study.
  • Placements - The placement scenarios are much better than that of engineering and law colleges. Even as a fresher you land a job of around INR 12-15 LPA. Whereas engineering students start their careers with nothing more than 3-7 LPA.
  • Division of courses - The Programme consists of 15 terms spread over a period of 5 years, with each year having 3 terms of 3 months. The subjects of the initial 3 years focus on the foundation and the last 2 years have core subjects that focus on Management.

In addition, there are humanities, literature, and skill-building courses, along with an option to pursue a foreign language. The IPM also has a group of subjects called ‘bridge courses’. They comprise courses related to information technology, intellectual property rights, or introduction to corporate law.

Cons

  • High fee structure - The biggest con of any IIM is its extremely high fees. The IPM is one of the most expensive graduation courses. Its fee is INR 500000 per year for the first 3 years. Approximately the total cost of this program is INR 3500000.
  • Limited Scope - The program offers very little future scope. This is because even if you decide to leave after 3 years, you will want to pursue Management itself. But leaving after spending so much on graduation is not easy. Also, people usually leave if they get a call from a better IIM. In that case, why did you even pursue graduation at such a high cost?
  • No specialization - The IPM course offers no specialization in Graduation.

Choose wisely after weighing the pros and cons according to your convenience and interests

Should I opt for CA or IPM from IIM?

DT
Darshika Tondon Posted On : January 12th, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Management Indore

You cannot make such a binary comparison between IPM and CA.

  • IPM:

You will learn topics from a variety of fields in this program, including math, science, economics, sociology, psychology, law, accountancy, and the arts. The PGDM curriculum that follows teaches you the fundamentals of finance, marketing, human resources, operations, information technology, etc., and prepares you to specialize in any subject of your choice. Regardless of your academic performance, you will be able to spend 5 years at an IIM after graduation. This strengthens your character in a way that is impossible in CA, where you must make all of your own preparations. You'll be able to interact with the best minds in the nation all at once thanks to it. Early exposure to cultural differences is crucial for the development of your personality and professionalism. The fact that IPM students receive the same treatment as PGDM students place a great deal of responsibility on them.

  • CA:

CA is a professional program that develops your accounting skills and offers competitive pay. However, doing so necessitates independent study, which calls for strong self-discipline. It lacks the social learning component, which must be made up for in another way.

You should choose IPM and pursue CFA, actuarial, or another type of certification intermittently. Many people have chosen to do this, and the outcomes have been very positive; they have been hired by prestigious financial institutions like JPMC, DE Shaw, Nomura, etc.

Is MSU Baroda good for a BBA, or should I go for other options?

SB
Sumit Baraiya Posted On : December 29th, 2022

Your decision actually depends on the fact if you want to pursue BBA or you want to study at MSU. This is because if your sole interest is in BBA then trust me there are many better colleges for it. But if you are adamant about studying at MSU, then it’s better you search for your own interests.

I will recommend you take the aptitude test which is free in the psychology department. This test will let you decide what to study. Don’t be a part of the herd and pursue what others are pursuing. Rather follow your own interest that you will not regret later.

Is the IPM program at IIM Indore very competitive? How many students take part in the IPM test every year on an average & what's the awareness level of IPM?

BR
Bhavna Rastogi Posted On : September 3rd, 2021
IPM from Indian Institute of Management Indore (2022)

IIM Indore is a major deal in and of itself. According to my friends studying at IIM Indore, around 15000 students (approximately) took the aptitude test last year.

  • This year's figures will rise as the IIM bill is enacted, and the first class of IPM graduates is placed 100% of the time, with an average package of 17.5 lakh.
  • In the following years, it will undoubtedly be difficult.
  • For the past three years, IPM has received between 15 and 19 thousand applications.
  • Every year, 120 people are accepted.
  • As a result, the math would lead you to believe it's more difficult to get into, than IITs and other prestigious institutions.

But that is not just the case, you can get in if you have above-average intelligence and can solve problems quickly. If you approach the interview casually, admission can become difficult.

How is the new IPM programme by IIM Rohtak?

CR
Chandrakana Ray Posted On : August 5th, 2021
Studied at IIM Ahmedabad (2019)

Last year my cousin got admission for the new IPM program by IIM Rohtak, and according to his experiences, here are some key highlights you need to have a look at before going for it.

  • If you have recently completed your 12th board, you can take up this Five-Year Integrated Programme in Management (IPM) if you aim to pursue your career in Business Management.
  • Since it's an integrated program it’s a comprehensive learning experience combining both UG and PG. You will be focused on managerial and leadership roles in the corporate sector.
  • In addition, you will be subjected to take up internships at the end of every academic year.

Once you successfully complete the course, you will be awarded a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree by IIM Rohtak.

Pros:

  • The curriculum is rigorous with the entire program being divided into two parts – the Foundation course and Management.
  • Great practical experience through compulsory internships.
  • Credible with a fully-fledged MBA degree after completion of course

Cons:

  • Since it is newly introduced, the first batch hasn't passed yet so we can’t analyse the placement record, nor a strong alumni network.
  • The fees structure of this course is quite expensive. 4,51,000 per annum (For three years) & 7,60,000 per annum (For 4th & 5th year)
  • You will be completely locked in for 5 years and if you wish to pursue MBA in other top-notch business schools or abroad, you can't.

A five-year integrated course is a great option if you are looking to pursue an MBA altogether after your graduation without having to clear additional formalities and hustle. Also, if fee structure and budget is not a constraint for you, you can definitely choose this course. However, if you aspire to pursue MBA from other top institutes or abroad, this course is not for you.
