HG
Himadri Ghose Posted On : November 22nd, 2021
B.Sc. Mathematics Hons. from University of Delhi (2020)

At Delhi University, Environmental Studies is an AECC subject and compulsory for the first semester. The examination is not that tough. The question asked are related to the curriculum and the syllabus taught by the teachers. But students usually do not take these classes seriously. That’s why many times students find the examination difficult. If you follow the classes seriously, you can easily answer the questions.

What are the downsides of studying in Delhi University?

MK
Mansukh Kaur Posted On : September 24th, 2021
MA from Christ University

My cousin graduated from DU. According to her, there are many downsides to studying at DU. Here is what she shared with me.

  • 90% of the students are not aware of hostel life. There isn't any.
  • No hefty starting packages during placements.
  • No sports facilities for students without a sports quota. You might as well practice on the road or join a private gym.
  • Delhi's weather is smoggy as you know.

Accommodation is costlier than your education, no change in curriculum, no alumni active network. Hope this gives you an idea.

Is it better to go for DU BMS instead of IPM of IIM Indore

AB

Since you’ve not given any context to the question, the answer in any normal circumstance would be yes. Let’s understand why spending more than 5 lacs on an IPM degree is not worth your time and effort.

  • Fee: BMS DU charges around 50,000 for the entire course where IPM fee is unnecessarily high just because of the IIM tag. I am not saying that there will not be any difference between the curriculum but the difference is not worth the money you’re paying.
  • Syllabus: Although IIMs are known for their pedagogy and surely you’ll get professors who will change the way you see a subject. This kind of exposure at such an early stage of your life will widen the possibilities but if we talk about the syllabus of a BBA degree and that of a BMS degree, the difference is pretty evident.

BMS is a slightly analytical degree that would give you an edge over students pursuing BBA or BCOM. I have seen BMS students acing CAT after basic preparation cause of their good grasp on logical reasoning. It’s a given fact that an average BMS students is more likely to score well in CAT than an average BBA/BCOM student.

Is Delhi University overrated?

SN
Siddhi Neema Posted On : November 15th, 2022
Studied Bachelor of Commerce at University of Delhi

DU indeed is a spectacular university and is rightfully famous for its infrastructure, curriculum, and everything in general. But several things are a bit overrated like:

  1. Faculty: Despite many brilliant professors here, the faculty members are not much interested in teaching. Either they don’t have enough knowledge or don’t want to teach. That’s why students at DU have to resort to self-study.
  2. Infrastructure: The infrastructure of most of the colleges at DU is terrible. The buildings are in bad condition. The computer facilities are very lacking and Wi-Fi does not work in many places. Although some colleges are well-equipped.
  3. Hostels: The hostels of the colleges at DU have unreasonable rules that you will have to follow. One of them is the 7:30 pm rule. They are not allowed to install coolers even during days of extreme heat.
  4. Curriculum: The curriculum is completely theory-based and does not include much practical knowledge. Just after a few days of rote learning, you will be able to score fairly well.
  5. Fest: The fest culture is all a bit too overrated. There is too much glamour and a waste of time.
  6. Job opportunities: Students at DU face major challenges when it comes to placements. This is because reputed firms only visit top colleges like St. Stephens' and SRCC making it difficult for an average student. You need to have brilliant scores with a record of extracurricular activities to get placed. Or you have to opt for higher studies.

Despite its flaws, Delhi University is indeed one of a kind. The crowd here is versatile and you get to meet people from everywhere. The variety of extracurricular activities, clubs, and societies of DU will surely make your stay here. The colleges at DU have a lot to give, just be with the right people.

Which college or university is better for a bachelor's in psychology: DU or MSU Baroda?

JT
Jayant Thakur Posted On : December 31st, 2022
B.A in Economics & Political Science, University of Delhi (Graduated 2019)

What truly distinguishes universities such as DU, JNU, and BHU is their brand value and large alumni base. It's as if they've created a brand, particularly for social science courses. A degree from it is valuable in and of itself. Second, while faculty may be similar in some ways, exposure at DU is unparalleled. You will learn a lot.

MSU Baroda is a great university with a vibrant past and a strong alumni base, but in the current scenario, good colleges of DU stand out. But, yes, you must work hard and take the initiative to learn and gain knowledge wherever you study because, in the end, it is the knowledge you acquire that counts.

Which university is better DU, PU or Jammu University?

RS
Rana Mukesh Singh Posted On : October 27th, 2021
B.Sc Honours Zoology from University of Delhi

It entirely depends on which course you are choosing. However, overall DU is definitely better than PU and Jammu University.

The academics and faculty base are almost the same at these universities. However, academics are not the only influencing factor in the overall development of students. Curriculum, exposure, and other additional things also play crucial roles.

At DU, you will have great exposure. DU has many societies like dance society, fashion society, debating society, etc. If you have any passion, you can explore it at DU.  The peer group at DU is also better.

If we speak generally, for the given institutes, your preference order should be DU>PU>Jammu University.

How are the placements in Delhi university?

AG
Aarti Gupta Posted On : November 15th, 2022
MA in Social Work (MSW) , University of Delhi (Graduated 2020)

The placements at Delhi University have a dark side that nobody tells you about. This is because you can experience it only if you yourself are in one of the mediocre colleges of DU.

For the best colleges in North and South Campus or Off Campus (SRCC, KMC, Miranda, Hindu, Venky, SBSC, Gargi, LSR, SSCBS, KVM), placements are not a big deal. This is because they will get you into big MNCs with high packages. Your performance in the interview is also significant.

But here is the dark side. If your college is mediocre and not among the top colleges of DU you will get placements in MNCs but for trivial positions like Customer Service Executives, Process Associates, or Airlines with Cabin Crew. The packages here are as low as 1.5-3.5 LPA.

So it all really depends on which college you are in.

What are some of the worst Delhi University colleges?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : June 7th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

Delhi University is the most sought-after institute by students of graduation and postgraduation. Even though clearing cutoffs and securing a seat at DU is extremely challenging, certain colleges at Delhi University have failed to secure a favorable student opinion, either due to poor infrastructure, negligent faculty/ administration, or simply because of the poor neighborhood.

Some of these colleges, as suggested by a few friends of mine, are-

  • Ramanujan College, Kalkaji: Poor infrastructure in terms of classrooms and especially, the canteen area
  • Shaheed Rajguru College of Applied Sciences for Women
  • Acharya Narendra Dev College, Kalkaji: Poor infrastructure, poor canteen facilities, poor washroom facility. Not a pleasant neighborhood. Lab facilities are below par and equipments are very old. However, the teachers are very supportive. The admin section is not very helpful and supportive towards the students
  • Satyawati College
  • Some other colleges include- Shyam Lal College, Shri Aurobindo College, Deshbandhu College, PGDAV, Zakir Husain Delhi College, JDMC, Bharti College, Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar College, and Aryabhatta College

This list is subjective and some of the people have even been graduated 5 or 6 years ago. Colleges at DU undergo constant improvements in terms of administration, infrastructure, academics, and so on. It depends also upon individual taste as to which college one finds good or bad.

Which one should I join MBA, BE, DU or IIM Sirmaur?

DS
Darshak Sinha Posted On : April 14th, 2022
MBA Marketing & Data Analytics, Indian Institute of Management Sirmaur (2021)

IIM Sirmaur is the best option among these. You will get good learning opportunities there. The faculties are highly qualified as any other IIM. Due to the smaller batch size, students get the required attention from professors.

The institute has a good placement record. IIM Sirmaur placement 2021 had an average CTC of INR 9.60 LPA. Besides the on-campus placement drive, the brand value will help you get jobs through offline applications.
