The Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST), Shibpur, formerly known as Bengal Engineering and Science University, is a premier technical institute in India that offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in various engineering and science fields. The first year of the Mechanical Engineering program at IIEST, Shibpur, is a common curriculum for all engineering streams.
Here are the subjects taught in the first year of the Mechanical Engineering program at IIEST, Shibpur:
The answer to this depends on what your final goal is.
If you are interested in CSE and want to take up a job offering lucrative packages, CSE at IIEST is what you should opt for if you are not getting shortlisted for CSE at JU.
You will get better placements in CSE at IIEST than electrical engineering at JU.
But, if you are interested to go for further studies, JU seems to be a better choice because you have good records. There are chances of IIEST climbing up the ladder to be a much greater institution with the changes in it, however, it will definitely be a slow and steady movement and also, the outcome cannot be predicted. In addition to this, you must keep in mind that it is an integrated course which is of five years.
At the same time, even though JU does not have an INI status, it has a good brand value and is quite popular in foreign countries. This might help you in the long run if you are planning for higher studies abroad or getting settled down abroad.
For an MTech in Environmental Engineering, the best option will be to attempt GRE or IELTS and pursuing a Ph.D. abroad.
There are several research job opportunities for Environmental Engineering students in India but these jobs do not pay well. The reason behind this is the Govt. has not taken initiative to improve in this field. Which is not the case abroad.
If your only alternatives are institutes like NIT Durgapur, it will be better to go for IIEST Shibpur. Pursue a B.E. in Civil Engineering and after that do your MTech in Environmental Engineering. You will get way better research exposure at IIEST Shibpur.
There’s no doubts about the fact that 5 years at IIITA is a smarter option compared to anything else. This is because of the simple calculation that you are going to study the same curriculum for 4 years BTech for 3 years. That is all about the core of CS and IT. One core and two electives are a part of the fourth year in a 4-year BTech program, which hardly makes any difference.
According to the experts, Robotics is the future of the IT industry and hence, finding yourself in the midst of such an academically enriching atmosphere which ensures a full time access to a premium robotics laboratory and esteemed faculty will certainly do good to you in more ways than you can ever imagine. That’s the kind of right exposure you are looking at.
Moreover, this department at IIIT Allahabad is being funded by MHRD, thus having a lot of helpful and positive influence from the big academic and administrative circles from all over the country. A number of international conferences sponsored by IEEE are held here regularly. A DST funded summer school of robotics is also a part of this institute. IIIT Allahabad is known to have multiple MOUs with various popular foreign universities and has extensive student exchange programs to give the best exposure of the industry and experts to its students.
Currently, most of the work is done online only but yes eventually you will have to use cash (if you want) for all the payments. For example, when you pay for the JoSSA counseling (which includes INR 44,000 towards the institute and INR 1,000 towards the counseling fee) you will have to make DD with the cash.
The college will automatically withdraw the semester fee from the 2nd semester onwards. The mess fee from 3rd semester onwards you can pay through credit cards or debit cards.
The EEE branch at IIEST Shibpur is good and it will be a wise decision to choose it. The curriculum of the branch is updated and it is very disciplined. You will be given the best learning experience with industrial exposure and practical knowledge.
The faculty members are wise, knowledgeable, and friendly. You will also get a good research environment. The department conducts various seminars wherein professors and guests from India and abroad deliver lectures about their experiences.
If you are opting for dual specialization then you can choose from the following specializations along with the EEE branch:
EEE department also has good placement records. Most of the students get placed through campus placements or pre-placement offers. The highest CTC offered is between INR 8-10 LPA. The average CTC offered is between INR 5.5 LPA. The major recruiters are Tata steel, CESC, Vedanta, L&T, MN Dastur, HSBC, PWC, Deloitte, Mu Sigma, EXL, ZS, and mass recruiters like IBM, Infosys, cognizant and Wipro.
The internet speed of the Wi-Fi is pretty good at the hostels. The LAN connection goes into the Wi-Fi router, which is strategically located in the hostel campus.
So the Wi-Fi speed you will receive is really good at IIEST Shibpur. Being a student here, I can assure you that internet speed was never a major problem.
One of my friends is a local of Jharkhand. He was eligible to get into all departments and ECE at NIT Jamshedpur except CSE, and he got into the same situation where he had to choose between IT at IIEST Shibpur and ECE at NIT Jamshedpur.
He chose IT at IIEST Shibpur and was satisfied with his decision. IIEST has a good campus which is given the INI tag, their seniors are also very good who motivate their juniors.
In the following table, you will get information on IT at IIEST Shibpur and ECE at NIT Jamshedpur.

Completed with a good campus, great seniors, and recently been given the INI tag, it has the energy and enthusiasm to excel and the Director of IIEST is a great person. He works hard to improve the place.
Many of my friends study at NIT Jamshedpur. It has a good infrastructure but not in better condition. Newly constructed hostels at NIT are also good. But officials of NIT are not promising.
Therefore, IIEST Shibpur is a better choice as it will give you many opportunities and give you a better experience.

Both the Institutes are good for mining with excellentfacilities like Wi-Fi, air-conditioned classrooms, laboratory facilities. Faculty members are also best, almost all the teachers are holding a Ph.D.So in short, the education facility as a whole is quite amazing and satisfactory for both the Institute.
