Is the mining branch in IIT BHU interesting?

MT
Mukul Taneja Posted On : August 13th, 2020
B.Tech. from Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi (2021)

The mining branch in IIT BHU is one of the ancillary branches(along with ceramics and Pharmaceutical Engineering) which most students often refrain from. Students often opt for the branch just with the hope of getting a better branch through branch change. Besides, the curriculum is very tough and it requires a humongous effort to get a decent CGPA in the mining branch.
Also, the branch doesn’t attract noteworthy companies for placements. Students are thus left with the sole option of getting acquainted with the coding culture for securing placements. Furthermore, the branch of Mining Engineering in India is not fully in consonance with the curriculum taught in foreign universities. However, it is pertinent to note that the branch does have considerable scope in many Coal and Mining companies.
So, if you have a profound interest in the branch, only then you should opt for it in IIT BHU Mining. Don’t just go for the IIT tag and choose a branch that offers ample opportunities, both in jobs as well as in further studies.

Are there bathroom attached hostel rooms in IIT BHU?

RK
Rashmeet Kaur Posted On : March 7th, 2024

No, the IIT BHU hostels do not have attached washrooms. Even the rooms are shared, and you won’t get a single seater room facility over here. Most government colleges do not provide their students with premium facilities. IIT BHU is one of them.

Thus, IIT BHU only offers common washrooms to its students in the hostels.

How are the hostel and other amenities in the IIT BHU for M.Tech students?

SS
Savi Sharma Posted On : March 2nd, 2024

M.Tech students (boys) of IIT BHU are allotted Aryabhatta Hostel I (Block A&B) and II (Block C&D).

It is a three story building that contains a large common room with TV, and a large dining hall. The hostel mess serves decent quality food. The hostel rooms are quite spacious, and they are two seaters. But whenever there’s a shortage of rooms, three students are allotted for each room, instead of two. But even then, there’s ample space for each occupant.

Each block has a garden. The washrooms are cleaned every afternoon, and are equipped with handwash and geysers. The two hostel canteens have all the basic items (including the basic food items), and their timings are 1:30PM-3AM and 7AM-10PM. On each floor, in each block, hot and cold purified water is available in the coolers. Each occupant is given a wooden cot, a table and a chair, and each room contains two cupboards. Decent wifi facilities are made available. The hostel celebrates every major festival with enthusiasm.

Overall, the M.Tech hostel at IIT BHU is quite decent.

What is the present internet speed in IIT BHU hostels?

NK
Nilesh Kumar Posted On : August 14th, 2020
B.Tech from Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi (2020)

The recent downloading speed is around 6 Mbps during the day as the traffic is very high. During the night the speed definitely increases but the increase is not that significant since people are awake at night too. When you are allotted your hostel rooms you will get an Ethernet cable. The speed might improve if you use the Ethernet instead of the wifi. In recent years a network with 1 Gbps bandwidth has been set up which resulted in good internet speed.

This might look very high speed to some people reading this answer, but actually this is a pretty normal speed considering its an IIT. IIT Roorkee has far better speed than this.

PD
Pablo Dasgupta Posted On : February 18th, 2022
Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi (IIT BHU)

The placement statistics for MTech Chemical Engineering at IIT BHU are average at best. In recent years, the median CTC received by the students of this branch was 15 LPA. There are very few core companies visiting the campus placements for Chemical Engineering. This is the case for other IITs as well. Some of the recruiters that offered placement opportunities to M.Tech Chemical Engineering students in past are Deloitte, Amazon, American Express, Google, etc.

Academic wise IIT BHU is great, it offers good exposure as well. But if you are expecting whopping placement packages, you will be disappointed.

What is the mess menu of IIT BHU?

Ankita Garkoti Posted On : March 2nd, 2024

IIT BHU has several hostels, and each one of them has 2-3 messes. Different people are given contracts for each mess, on an annual basis. Around 150-200 students eat everyday in each mess. This entire system ensures that quality food is served in the messes. This many messes can’t have a single menu.

There is no fixed menu as such even if we consider a single mess. The ‘Maharaj’ i.e. the person in charge, keeps on including/removing dishes, based on the prices of raw ingredients. For lunch and dinner, there is roti, two-three kinds of rice, 2-3 kinds of vegetable curries, and 1-2 kinds of dals. Salad forms a part of these meals.

Fruit salads, sweets and cakes are given at least once a week. On Saturdays, poori-chhole and a few snacks are served alongside other regular items. Special food items like 2-3 types of parathas, noodles, dosa, idli, etc. are added to the menu at least once every 2 weeks. Eggs are served twice a week, and paneer items are served to vegetarians. Chicken, fish and mutton are served twice a week. You can pay separately and order egg bhurji, omelet and egg rice anytime from the mess. The mess charge is around Rs. 12,000 per semester.

Overall, the mess menu is quite decent at IIT BHU.
