Mahatma Gandhi National Fellowship offered solely at IIM Bangalore aims at offering skills to government officials for implementing various government schemes at district, state, and national levels. The combination of academics with industry experience, the fellowship enables the fellows to train with officials and create a district-level skill development ecosystem. It will target a specific group of young people filled with vigor and ready to uplift the ecosystem in management, entrepreneurship, and public policy.
This 2-year program has been initiated across 75 districts. Graduates within the age bracket of 21-30 can participate and will receive a certificate in public policy and management from the fellows. The program offers INR 50000 in the first year and INR 60000 in the second.
This fellowship is specially designed for those willing to work in the social sector. Don’t commit to this program unless you are 100% sure you won’t regret giving up a corporate high-paying job for this.
Yes, 60 LPA is indeed a pretty decent salary for someone working in the IT industry. In fact, after 12 years do people even work for a salary anymore? I think their work-life needs other factors for motivation. These include your growth in the particular field, your understanding of the recent trends, you are being able to undertake risks successfully, or the recognition of things that might be beneficial for you in the long run. What I mean is after a long period of 12 years your salary is no longer the motivating factor. So instead of looking for a higher salary, focus on your own life and personal growth.
To know more about the life of a student at IIM Bangalore, let’s go through these aspects.
Campus life: The campus and infrastructure of IIM Bangalore is something no one can stop talking about. It’s top notch well maintained.
Hostels: The hostel rooms are the best you can avail with almost everything like study table, rotating chair, notice board, white board, a big almirah, bookshelf, mirror and a bed. To get your room cleaned you can make a request through an online portal. The washrooms are exceptionally clean.
Connectivity: The campus enjoys a good Wi-Fi connection and has an additional LAN port.
Food: The mess food is served 4 times that is breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner. The quality and taste of food is like no other mess facilities of India.
Academics: The academics here are very rigid and you will have to manage your time. The first semester is packed with projects, submissions and exams. The second semester welcomes the more engaging summer placements. Students will have to study for their subjects as well as prepare for the placements. So the first half of the second semester is extremely busy while the second half is relatively relaxed.
Culture: IIM Bangalore has a strong culture and your seniors always ensure that you are not facing any problem. They also arrange sector talks for placements, resume guidance, academic mentorship and help in interview preparation. There is a strong harmony among the seniors and juniors.
So life of an IIMB students is full of ups and downs but really enriched. They are lucky enough to experience such an amazing rollercoaster of life.
No, I don’t think you should join IIM Bangalore and pursue MBA given that you are already receiving INR 20 LPA (base).
If your base is INR 20 LPA then the package should be around INR 25 LPA. An MBA from IIM Bangalore will also get you placed with a similar package maybe around INR 30 LPA. This does not make much difference considering the high fees you will have to pay. In Fact you will be leaving out the market risk, performance, opportunity costs and the increment that you will probably get in the next two years.
So an MBA from IIM Bangalore does not seem a good option since you are already working at an esteemed organization with an above average salary.
No, a 99 percentile in CAT does not guarantee a seat in IIM A B or C. One of my friends had an amazing profile with
Despite having such a high profile he failed to get a single interview call from any IIM. The reservation policy combined with favour towards female candidates minimises the opportunities for even top CAT percentilers.
The following experience is that of my sister who has the following profile 95/93.8/8.9 (Bcom H Fresher). It was an online interview the duration of which was 20 minutes. The questions asked to her were as follows:
Luckily my sister answered each and every question confidently.
Next came up the Case Study round wherein the interviewer asked:
On Wednesday, discounts on different items are given, so that sales could be increased. What is the concept involved? To this my sister answered Elasticity of demand and gave many other reasons like consumer behaviour, law of demand. They also asked her why she did not prefer work experience first. To this she told them that she was learning-oriented. Both the interviewers were quite convinced.
She got selected soon after.
I have drawn a clear comparison between IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Bangalore based on the following parameters:
Campus size: IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Bangalore both has a campus of 100 Acres.
Hostel: IIM Ahmedabad has 25 student dormitories with a total capacity to hold about 740 occupants. IIM Bangalore also offers single-room occupancy to its students.
Internet facility: Both the hostels have a 24/7 internet connection.
Crowd Diversity: IIM Bangalore is slightly at an advantage here because IIM Ahmedabad lays more emphasis on the engineering background of students.
Learning experience: IIM Ahmedabad is more academically oriented whereas IIM Bangalore focuses on the overall development of its students.
Rigour: The faculty strength, academic mix, and more balanced approach to extra-curricular activities make IIM Ahmedabad a better one in this regard.
Fees: IIMA- INR 23 LPA, IIMB- INR 24.5 LPA.
Placements: It will be unjustified to decide which IIM of the two offers better placement opportunities. This is because both offer the best but in their respective specialties. IIMB offers more placement in IT functions and IT/E-commerce industry whereas IIMA offers better consulting and financial services.
Based on the above factors we can infer that no B-School is better than the other. It all depends on how well you make use of the resources and achieve your goals. Both the IIMs will definitely give you a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Firstly, if you haven’t been able to get into Lovely Professional University, don’t get discouraged. Getting into IIMs is also a privilege. You can land decent jobs even as an IIM graduate. So just settle for the best IIM and achieve your goals.
But if you still think with one more chance you can ace the entrance exam of LPU, then take a dropout year and prepare well for it. It will be a year full of struggles but you will have to deal with it with the right spirit. Who knows you might actually get into LPA this time and fulfill your dream.
Without second thoughts, IIM Calcutta is the finance capital of India. People might think my opinion is biased but in reality, it is based on facts and its reputation today. Some factors that justify its fame in the finance sector are as follows:
Location: The nearness to reputed Institutions well connectivity is indeed the most remarkable thing about IIMC. The superior faculty renowned for Economics and Business Policies add to its worth.
First mover advantage - This has helped IIMC to gain critical mass quickly. The senior alumni took over notable positions in the industry. Also
Then the constant hard work to sustain its position - it overcame periodic economic crises and always strove to supply high-performing management professionals who could thrive in such situations.
Being one of the oldest institutes, it enjoys a strong alumni network.
Consistency: IIMC was consistent in its efforts to gain fame and climb the ladder. It overcame economic crises and was always able to supply high-performing management professionals irrespective of the dire situations.
All this has rightfully made IIMC the finance capital of India and it's a fact not an opinion.
