Studied at Calcutta University (2019)

As some of my friends studied at Thapar University, I can share some of their experiences and views about the fresher’s party.

  • The party usually lasts for around two months.
  • Thapar University organizes a fest for fresher students (first-year students) by the name fresh week.
  • The fest has several fun activities in which students participate.
  • If you are inclined to engage in cultural activities then Thapar University would be the best place for you.
  • The fest comprises DJ Night, DJ Wars, Fashion Shows, Singing and Dancing competitions, Club Activities, and much more.

I hope that this answer was helpful enough and your excitement about the Fresher’s party at the University lives up to its expectations.

Do extracurricular activities really matter during placements in Thapar University?

AB
Akhil Bajaj Posted On : August 5th, 2021
Bachelor of Engineering Electronics and Communication Engineering, Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (2019)

Yes, extracurricular activities matter a lot. Placements are not only about knowledge but also about how you present yourself and how you interact with people.

  • A 9-Pointer Grade only shows your capability of learning or in some subjects.
  • A project will enhance your CV and your ability to get selected as it indicates that you have done something worthwhile other than attending college.
  • Taking part in societies and holding a position where you lead a team of students indicates your leadership and management skills.
  • Your CGPA will help you clear the cutoff, but extracurricular activities will help during the interviews.

Involvement in extracurricular activities speaks about your multidimensional personality which every organization coming for placement in every institute aspires to hire. Involvement in these activities teaches you to work in a team, think creatively, and develop time management.

Can a student graduating from Thapar University be accepted into top notch post-graduate/MBA schools?

SP
Shreya Pathak Posted On : August 10th, 2021
Works at I.B.M (2019 - Present)

One of my colleagues previously pursued his studies at Thurgood Marshall Law from Texas, which was slightly lower ranked than the schools situated in Chicago. Despite the drawbacks, he still acquired the opportunity to enroll at one of the top institutes later in his life.

Having said that, low-ranked schools or institutes generally do not preclude you from attempting your chances at several other top institutes.

However, it will still require a lot of effort and input from your side. In case you want to be eligible, you should secure a score over 780 in GMAT, with a simultaneous record of work experience.

Only then can you think of getting a call from the administration. You will also have to fulfill several in-built criteria made or followed by them altogether.

You will surely need a laptop as you will learn a lot of new things. A laptop is also required for reading e-books and using essential software. You should get a laptop with a decent configuration. One that fits your budget. Here are some other instances where you might require a laptop.

  • During the first semester, with C and C++ as well as Java in the second semester.
  • As far as lectures are concerned, you will need a laptop for ED-II during the lecture.
  • When you are working on presentations and projects, a laptop will be handy.
  • You can also save up on money by downloading PDFs of reference books and reading them on your laptop.
  • Many technical workshops organized by different societies also require laptops.

Let me tell you that while the laptop might not be compulsory, it is definitely necessary. You can borrow one from your roommates or friends if you do not have the budget for it. But, have one handy.

Which college one should go for Thapar University ECE or LNM-IIT Jaipur CSE ?

SG
Sudesna Ghose Posted On : August 12th, 2021
Studied at The LNM Institute of Information Technology

I have a few friends from both Thapar University and LNM-IIT Jaipur and based on the reviews I got from them, I will say LNMIIT Jaipur will be a better option. Here are the reasons why.

  • Batch Strength: The total number of students at LNMIIT is less than 600, so the competition will be less in this college.
  • Placements: The placement scenario of this college is excellent. Top companies like Microsoft, Amazon, Oyo, Uber visit the campus for placements. Samsung is a mass recruiter in this college and has offered packages of more than 13 lakhs per annum. According to the recent placement highlights the average and highest CTC offered to the students are 12 LPA and 58 LPA respectively. Students also perform well in off-campus placements.
  • Workshops: There are various kinds of workshops such as GSoC, mun, and many cultural and technical fests organized in the college.
  • Reservations: There are no reservations or state quotas for admission.
  • Coding Culture: The campus has a good coding culture.

Hence, LNMIIT is a very good place to pursue CSE, but a college is just a medium and it completely depends on how you can utilize your 4 years in the college. Your success will depend on your hard work and efforts.

What should a fresher know about Thapar University?

AM
Agnish Mukherjee Posted On : August 8th, 2023
BE from Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology

These are a few things you should know about Thapar University as a fresher-

  1. The faculty has both kinds of teachers- some are really good at teaching, some are equally bad at it. Though all the teachers are well-qualified, not all of them are good at teaching.
  2. Maintain an 8+ CGPA during your first year. Other than that, don’t stress much about the placements, they are quite far off as of now.
  3. Freshmen get hostel rooms on a sharing basis, with often 4 people in a single one. You will make good friends and mix well with the crowd. As you become a sophomore, you will get to choose among single rooms, double rooms, AC rooms, etc. The mess food is good and the night canteen is a bonus.
  4. The entire Thapar University campus is ragging-free.
  5. Patiala is a calm town. Thapar University campus is flanked by biodiversity parks on two sides, it has a forest/garden with a man-made lake inside it.
  6. The senior-junior interaction is great and you will befriend a lot of seniors through societies, clubs, etc. You will meet new people and make some amazing friends regardless of your cultural background or personality type. There is something for everyone over here.

Your life at Thapar will be filled with opportunities and distractions. It depends upon you how well you establish a balance between your studies and other activities.

Are societies helpful in getting placements at Thapar University?

SG
Sandip Ghose Posted On : August 25th, 2021
Studied Engineering at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (2019)

Societies or clubs in every institute mainly help in personal development. They will certainly help you in improving your skills, communication and also provide exposure. But clubs or societies don’t directly help in getting placements at Thapar University.

For placements, the first and foremost important thing is clearing the aptitude test because without clearing that you won’t be allowed to participate in the placement sessions. The second important thing is your summer internship program. The summer internship program has to be something substantial to your course and preferably from a good company. Working in a substantial summer internship program will also help in clearing the placement interview.

The certificates from the clubs or the societies won’t do much good even if you put them in the resume. It is better to work on your English, Communication Skills, and aptitude as these will help you in the placement and also in the long run.

Is Thapar University one of the best options after BITS?

DG
Deepika Guha Posted On : August 7th, 2023
Studied at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology

Thapar University has a rich legacy and was established even before India became an independent nation. TIET has been ranked 22nd position in the University Category and 40th in the Overall Category in NIRF Ranking 2023.

Thapar University has been recording splendid campus placements with many MNCs like Google, Microsoft, and Amazon offering lucrative packages to students. The highest CTC recorded in 2022 stood at INR 40 LPA whereas the average CTC was recorded at INR 10.97 LPA respectively. Thapar University Center for Industrial Liaison & Placement (CILP) is a body that organizes campus interviews to provide placement training to final-year students of all branches.

However, Thapar University has very low cutoffs because of its increasing fees. The institute is in a state of rapid development and needs funds to improve its infrastructure. The cutoffs are expected to restore better standards once the institute is well-developed.

Thapar University is a decent choice for a private college and can be considered if you failed to make it to BITS Pilani.

How is the new branch computer engineering with honours in machine language and data analytics at Thapar University?

AS
Aniket Saha Posted On : August 12th, 2021

My brother is currently pursuing CML at Thapar University and he highly recommends the course as you will get to learn a lot compared to the core CS. Here are some of the reasons why he chose this course.

  • In the current industry, Data Analysis and Machine Learning have high demand. Almost every big company needs Data Scientists.
  • In CML, you will get an extra degree of honors in Machine Learning and Data Analysis apart from the normal BE in CS.
  • The only startup of the first year is run by students of CML.
  • CML is the only branch that got a 200% increase in seats from the original plan to the second year.

If you talk to the graduates from IITs who are currently working as Data scientists in the industry they will definitely recommend this course. As it offers immense opportunities.

What are the some lesser known facts about Thapar University in Patiala?

AB
Anushua Banerjee Posted On : August 11th, 2021
B.E, CSE at Thapar University (2020)

My brother is a final year student at Thapar University so I think I can answer this question.

This is about the ECE department only.

  • The faculty members of the ECE department are not good. Almost 99% of them lack basic knowledge about the subject.
  • You have to do nothing at the labs apart from making files. After 4 years at the university and after spending 12 lakhs, the only thing you will learn at the labs is working on CRO.
  • The lab assistants and other Ph.D. students who help at the labs during experiments know nothing more than which wires are to be connected at which points.
  • Lastly, talking about the placements. Coding and communication skills are the two things based on which you will get placed. You do not need to have any hardcore knowledge of ECE subjects.

Hope this helps.
