Why does IIM Indore give less importance to the CAT percentile?

SG
Saikat Guha Posted On : August 31st, 2021
MBA BM from XLRI (2019)

IIM Indore gives less importance to the CAT percentile because it pays more importance to the aggregate of 10th and 12th class of students. Although every college, specifically every IIM has its own criteria for selecting the candidates, IIM Indore is more into academics and less into the entrance, graduation marks, or even the working experience. Here is the selection procedure for IIM Indore in brief.

Stage I- CAT score has the least weightage in the shortlisting stage. Any student with good academic performance and above-average CAT scores can get a call from IIM Indore. Here is the CAT cutoff for 2020, in IIM Indore.

Category  VARC DILR QA Overall Percentile
General  80  80  80  90
NC OBC 70  70  70  80
EWS 80  80  80  90
SC 55  55  55  60
ST  45  45  45  50
PwD 45  45  45  50

The weightage given for the 10th score is 34%. There is the weightage for graduation marks, both for the shortlisting of WAT-PI and the final selection.

Stage II- It consists of the WAT and PI round which you have to clear to appear in the next round. If a student fails to attend this, he/she would be out of the selection process.

Stage III- There is a weightage of 40% marks given to the PI round in the final selection and as the students are already selected based on the academics, it is now in the final selection when 20% aggregate is for the CAT exam.

Therefore, you must have a good academic background to get admission to IIM Indore.

Business development manager at (K) Learning Routes (2016–present)

The Executive General Management Program (EGMP) is a certificate program designed to develop core business skills and competencies for functional managers aspiring to move into a general management role.

Technologists looking to expand their business knowledge and advance to general management responsibilities as business heads should attend the program, as should mid-career professionals with room for growth and graduates with at least five years of experience.

According to UGC regulations, any course lasting less than two years is not considered a post-graduate or degree course. Executive courses are short-term programs that are not considered post-graduate programs. Above that, the programs that IIM offers are delivered by NIIT Imperial and HUGHES Education, which are third parties.

Which college should I prefer, CSE in IIT Hyderabad, CSE in BITS Goa, EEE in BITS Pilani?

PP
Pratik Parikh Posted On : May 16th, 2023

In my opinion, CSE in IIT Hyderabad is the best option amongst the aforementioned institutes. EEE in BITS Pilani is not a good option unless you are interested in core Electronics. This is because the future is CS-oriented and everyone is out there trying to secure lucrative job opportunities in the same. I wouldn’t suggest you target a branch change from EEE to CS in Pilani as for that you will require a very high CGPA as high as 9.7 which is very very tough to get.

Speaking of BITS Goa, it is known for its amazing new coding culture and no compulsory attendance policy. However, nothing can match the brand value of IIT.

IIT Hyderabad focuses primarily on AI and ML which is very beneficial for your future.

Thus it can be concluded that IIT Hyderabad is a better option for you.

What type of profile do freshers in new schools: IIMs, FMS, XLRI, MDI, IIFT, and NMIMS have? Do all of them have 80+/90+ in 10th and 12th?

AS
Abhijit Saha Posted On : May 28th, 2021
studied Business Management at Xavier School of Management (2018)

I can speak for XLRI since I have many friends at the institute. A score of 80-/90+ is not necessarily the only criteria based on which students are admitted to the institute.

The admission commission looks for a number of activities and accomplishments. These include your performance in sports, music, scholarships leadership positions held previously, college festivals, participation in competitions such as debates and quizzes during your schooling. Your position at the national or state level in sports, if any. Surely the admission process is not limited to these only.

Academics are also considered but that can be said as one of the factors and not the deciding criterion. Even if you do not possess such scores in your 10th or 12th, do not agonize. XLRI will heartily welcome you for proving your worth in other domains.

What do you know about Bankura Christian College?

MM
Mohona Mishra Posted On : December 28th, 2021
studied at Bankura Christian College (2018)

One of my friends studied at the Bankura Christian College. According to him it is a good college overall.

Here are some points about it:

  • The English department is said to be the best department of this college.
  • Students claimed that they did not require additional help from tuition centres.
  • Whatever the professors taught was more than enough. If you attend your classes regularly, coaching centres won't be necessary.
  • The teachers are very dedicated. This department has all the modern equipment for proper learning to keep up with the recent trends.
  • The Physics department is one of the best departments of the college. But most of the students rely on tuition.
  • This department is also equipped with good quality laboratories, libraries, digital classrooms, etc.
  • The Chemistry department students also prioritize tuition rather than classroom teaching.
  • In the Mathematics department the number of full time professors is a bit less than what is required.
  • The Bengali department is also a good choice for the students to get a deeper insight of Bengali literature.
  • The departments like Zoology, Botany, Physiology are also considered the best in the district.
  • This library contains every essential book you need for your course. Not only that it contains a huge amount of foreign published books which you cannot find anywhere in the whole district.

Keep in mind that you must have a very good score in your higher secondary exam to get a chance for admission in any of the above mentioned departments of this college, because these are considered to be the best in the district.

How is IIM Kozhikode for an Executive MBA for someone with 10 years of work experience? Is the time duration and investment worth it?

MS
Mahak Sengupta Posted On : May 20th, 2023
PDGM from Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (2016)

If the job opportunity offered at the end of an Executive MBA from IIM Kozhikode is less than what you are already earning, it’s not logical to invest 20 Lakhs and gain nothing in return. However, irrespective of your current package, an Executive MBA is a unique qualification and will help you for further growth.

There are many institutes that offer Executive MBA at lesser fees than IIMs. Listed below are some of the top institutes offering Executive MBA courses in the country along with the fees charged by them

Symbiosis Center for Management and HRD

INR 2,10,000

Symbiosis Institute of Business Management

INR 2,60,000

Amity University

INR 6,20,000

Indian Institute of Business Management and Studies

INR 40,800

FMS

INR 95,000

Delhi Technological University

INR 2,30,000

A few institutes even offer triple accredited Executive MBA which is the most valued. Ultimately, you should not focus on the institute but on what it offers.

What is the scope after doing FPM from IIM Kozhikode What is the program about

CG
Chaitanya Goel Posted On : January 5th, 2023
Works at Dell (company)

The Fellow Programme in Management (FPM) offered at IIM Kozhikode is a source of excellent management researchers and faculty resources that contribute largely to academic institutions, industry, business, government, and society. The most common job undertaken by its fellows is becoming a part of academic institutions as a faculty member.

Some of the most reputed National Institutes have hired the graduates of FPM. Some of them include

  • Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Indore
  • Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Trichy
  • Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras
  • National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE), Mumbai

Other graduated fellows have also joined the reputed universities around the globe. Many work in Europe, North America, and the Middle East either as faculty members or as post-doctoral researchers. Some such Universities include

  • Loughborough University, United Kingdom
  • Durham University Business School, United Kingdom
  • University of New Brunswick, Canada
  • Strathclyde Business School, United Kingdom
  • Middlesex University, Dubai
  • University College of London
  • University of St. Gallen

IIM Kozhikode does not prefer its graduates to work for the industry. They can contribute to it and occasionally work for it. But being employed by society is discouraged after this program.

Some FPM students who opted for non-academic jobs are now working in top positions at reputed firms. Some roles offered to them include

  • Analytics expert
  • HDFC Mutual Funds Lead
  • Chief Technology Officer Research Team, WIPRO
  • Dy. Manager (Systems), SBI

So the scope of this program is vast. You can never regret pursuing this program. You will excel in every field be it academics or non-academics.
