If you got through both XLRI and TISS, which one would you choose?

NC
Neha Chowdhury Posted On : March 16th, 2022

If you get both XLRI and TISS, you should choose the latter. Both of these are widely reputed. These offer different value propositions and learnings. XLRI is a true blue B-school. It is competitive and placement-oriented

TISS isn’t your typical B-school. It is a social sciences school, where placement follows knowledge. They have an opinionated, liberal knowledge-oriented approach towards academics. The pedagogy is research and fieldwork-oriented. You can choose any of the courses as optional irrespective of your course. This will help develop your perspective towards our country.

Placement isn’t an issue for these institutes. You will get good ROI from both. The XLRI vs TISS is a never-ending debate and there isn’t any clear winner. You won’t miss out on any opportunity if you choose one over the other.

Why does everyone talk about XLRI HR and not BM? Is BM bad at XLRI?

AP
Ashish Patil Posted On : June 17th, 2021
XLRI (Human and Resource Management 2019)

It is not a question about whether or not BM is bad, and HR is good. XLRI is more known for HR because it has stuck with the brand. The brand XLRI primarily had an established legacy in Industrial Relations (IR). Which later converted into HR. XLRI established its reputation as an IR concentrated institution following the Independence of the country.

BM, on the other hand, was inaugurated only afterward alongside older IIMs. This has somehow resulted in leading to the XLRI brand getting generally and mostly associated with HR, and not BM. It’s rare to find any industry or top-tier companies in the country where the top HR personnel is not from XLRI.

Now when talking about BM at XLRI, there is definitely a strong and successful alumni base from BM in the industrial sector. In fact, for further recruitments, alumni of XLRI get placed in McK, BCG, and several more from the BM sector.

Can I get XLRI if I have cleared the CAT examination?

NS
Nishant Shukla Posted On : June 22nd, 2021
B.Tech from IIT Kharagpur (2019)

One of my friends cleared the XAT exam to get into XLRI. If you think CAT is the way, then you should know that some things -

  • If you think CAT is the way, well it's not. You'll need a 99+ percentile to get into XLRI and lastly, in combination with academic excellence, extra-curricular activities, achievements and work experience will count as well.
  • XLRI is very strict in scrutinizing the overall profile of a candidate. The final merit list is prepared on the basis of it.

In case XLRI starts taking on the basis of CAT score which I think it might have or will do in the future, you'd benefit from having a thorough knowledge of these programs and exams as well. And this goes for any of the MBA entrance exams you might take including CAT.

What are my chances of getting into XLRI Jamshedpur if I’m a psychology majors and have scored 10 in CGPA 10th and 94.8% in 12th, and my average SGPA in college is 9.1 out of 10?

You have the same odds as other XLRI applicants. Your psychology major is not a disadvantage. XLRI requires a 3-year bachelor's degree after 12th grade, an entrance exam, and a group discussion/personal interview for all applicants. Academic excellence may boost a candidate's evaluation. XLRI interviews candidates who score over the minimum cutoff in the admission exam (XAT) and do well in the GD round. Different selection criteria are weighted.

One of my students passed out of XLRI recently. Let me share his experiences after graduating from this institute. He claims it is one of the finest B-schools in India. It is popular for its Human Resource Management program.

There are few points you should keep in mind while choosing a career path after doing an MBA from XLRI.

  • An HR manager from any institute will do what their role is, perhaps you should try to find much more efficient ways to solve all those problems in their organization.
  • You should discover the problems from their abstract environment and try to solve them.
  • You must be active and observant, and find out the underlying problem that may create an issue and become an obstacle in the future.
  • You must try to look for organizations that are going through a change in terms of transformation or expansion.
  • You must choose an industry that they like and always look for opportunities to do any cross-functional roles.
  • In the HR profession, you may experience a career that offers good working conditions, good career growth opportunities, and rewarding work, these will boost your career.

Has anyone completed executive development program in digital marketing from XLRI Jamshedpur? If yes, how was your experience? Do you really suggest this course?

AA
Aishwarya Anand Posted On : April 25th, 2023
Studied at the Xavier School of Management

XLRI Jamshedpur is among the best B-schools in the world. According to recent NIRF's ranking of the best business schools in the country, it ranks at 8.

As a multi-award-winning E-learning firm, TalentEdge is renowned for simulating authentic classroom environments within its proprietary software. They work together with prestigious educational institutions such as XLRI, IIMs, MICA, etc. to provide a wide range of management courses.

XLRI and TalentEdge have partnered to provide an Executive Development Programme in Digital Marketing.

Consider these lesson plan details:

  • This 6-month, 70-hour course is taught.
  • Marketing, HR, PR, customer service, product development, IT, business ownership, and entrepreneurial professionals will benefit from this course. Before entering, you must have three years of professional experience.
  • Live classes delivered via the TalentEdge direct-to-device platform, along with accompanying case studies and a culminating project, make up the pedagogical framework.

Topics covered in the course are as follows.

  1. Promotion in the Information Age
  2. Paid Search Marketing
  3. Online Display Marketing
  4. Video Marketing
  5. Search Engine Optimization
  6. Strategic Brand Communication
  7. Social Media Marketing
  8. Content Marketing
  9. Remarketing & Conversion
  10. Digital Media Analytics
  11. Mobile & E-mail Marketing
  12. Digital Asset Monetization
  13. Digital Marketing Plan

Even though the course is good, here are some situations in which it might not be the best choice.

  • The course is made for business people. Thus, the course may emphasize running a digital marketing department rather than understanding the concept.
  • Freshmen without 3 years of experience may not be admitted.
  • XLRI is more of a business school and hasn't done much training in digital marketing.
