What should be my CV like when applying to MBA at NMIMS Mumbai?

RD
Ram Deshpande Posted On : March 13th, 2023
M.B.A. in Marketing, NMIMS (Graduated 2019)

You don't need to worry about your CV as it is not the most important factor. Instead, focus on your SOP as it will provide valuable information about you. Keep in mind that a significant portion of your interview will be based on your SOP.

You should remember that the following parameters are weighted as follows:

  • NMAT score - 70%
  • Group Discussion (GD) - 10%
  • Personal Interview (PI) - 10%
  • Academic record - 5%
  • Work experience - 5%

Thus, your past experiences and the quality of your CV will only impact a small percentage of your chances (5-10%). However, if you score well on NMAT (above 220), you will be halfway to success. From there, focus on doing well in the GD and PI.

Keep in mind that you can't change much in your CV at this point. However, you can still improve your chances by doing well in the NMAT, GD, and PI. So, focus on preparing for these components, and you'll be on your way to success.

I have 207/360 NMAT score. What are my chances of getting a call from NMIMS Mumbai?

DR
Dhwanil Rawal Posted On : March 1st, 2023
B.E in Electronics and Communication Engineering, Father Conceicao Rodrigues College of Engineering Mumbai (Graduated 2015)

According to the recent trends, the NMIMS Mumbai NMAT cutoff is 208 (94%). Your score is on the boundary and thus serves as no guarantee for admission. The cutoff usually depends on the level of difficulty of the exam and ranges from 207–210. In addition, if you are a fresher or have work experience of fewer than 12 months, your chances for conversion are zero. But if you do have good work experience, the chances are still rare.

All I can suggest to you is that you go for a retest and improve in the section you have flunked. Re-trying NMAT might get you a better score and thus increase your chances to an extent.

For a Master’s of Computer Applications (MCA), is NMIMS, Mumbai better or Christ University, Bangalore?

SR
Shrinivas Rajendran Posted On : March 1st, 2023
MBA from Symbiosis Institute of Business Management, Bengaluru (Graduated 2019

For MCA, Christ University is a much better option than NMIMS mainly because of its location in Bangalore, the IT hub of the country. Also, the general ambiance of Christ University is perfect for MCA. There are strict rules within the campus and many consider it a flaw but in reality, this has led to confidence and skill development amongst the students.

Christ University is the kind of institution that does not just deliver the curriculum but also helps you stand up and understand yourself and deal with everything in life. Even in terms of rankings, Christ University fares better than NMIMS. Its organization is better than NMIMS and makes any individual career-oriented. If you have a certain goal in life and you are diligent about achieving it, Christ University will give you the reins to do so.

Christ University does have certain demerits like the dress code and mess facility, yet if someone is totally focused on their career, these things hardly matter.

Is it possible to get into NMIMS Mumbai campus with a good NMAT score but poor academic records?

MG
Madhav Goyal Posted On : February 28th, 2023
MBA from SVKM's NMIMS (Graduated 2016)

The best part of NMIMS is that it gives very little weightage to past academic performance and judges its candidates mainly on their NMAT scores. This gives a chance to many students who couldn’t achieve a great score before due to some other reasons but now are willing to strive for success.

Around 70% weightage is given to NMAT and the remaining criteria comprise CDPI, extracurricular background, work experience, and past academics each carrying very less weightage in comparison to NMAT. There are 3 things you can work on to compensate for your poor academic record.

  • Work experience: A relatively good work experience can help overlook your poor academic record as the direction of your interview will be towards your roles, responsibilities, and achievements during your work experience.
  • Extra-curricular: Another component that can be used to overshadow your poor academic background is a well-built extracurricular background. The panelists will be interested in your achievements and interests in the same and will focus less on your past academics.
  • Case Discussion: There is a chance that you neither have good work experience nor any extracurricular involvement. In this situation, only an excellent CD round can suffice for the lacking profile.

NMIMS does not lay much emphasis on past academics so it’s not something to worry about a lot. Ace your NMAT and you are good to go.

Does clearing the cutoff in NMAT for NMIMS Mumbai guarantee a call?

DS
Deepanshu Sharma Posted On : February 28th, 2023
MBA from SVKM's NMIMS (2019)

First of all, nothing guarantees a call from a top B-school as the criteria comprise not one but many parameters. Moreover, NMAT is a very competitive exam because most of the students sitting for the NMAT want admission to NMIMS only. NMIMS, NMAT Cutoff 2022 for General Category is 94 percentile. Candidates who meet the NMAT cutoff score will be eligible to proceed with a selection process in NMIMS which involves multiple stages. The sectional cutoff is as follows

Section

Expected cutoff

Language skills

71

Quantitative Techniques

76

Logical Reasoning

69

Overall

232

NMIMS gives 70% weightage to NMAT during the evaluation process. Carrying the highest weight is a major component of determining your chances of conversion. However, one should not forget that this is the major but not the only criterion for admission and even a good score will not guarantee admission if you haven’t performed well in CDPI rounds. I have many instances wherein people with average NMAT scores who performed excellently in the CDPI rounds were able to convert calls whereas people with a great score but poor performance in CDPI rounds couldn’t. So the entire admission criteria is a blend of various parameters and each should be given importance with NMAT being the major one.

Having scored 213 in the NMAT, how difficult will it be for me to convert the NMIMS Mumbai call (considering average academics and no work experience)?

SB

There are 2 key points you need to know regarding NMAT

  • 70% weightage is given to NMAT score during shortlisting
  • The NMAT cutoff is usually around 205-250 marks

Now people might infer that a candidate with higher marks is likely to get into NMIMS. However this is not the case as I know many people who had a score of 220+ but were unable to make it into NMIMS Mumbai. So it’s best that you don’t worry about your scores and compare it with others once you have cleared the cutoff. You have more important factors to consider like the personal interview and case discussions which require a lot of preparation.

Moreover, a score of 213 is not that bad so don’t let it demotivate you a bit. Focus on your future endeavors. Preparing for the interview can be best done by going through your own CV and practicing to answer the questions related to it. The case discussion round is also risky and you need to be extremely patient throughout. Give everyone a chance and deliver your opinion in a concise and impactful manner.

In case you are worried about your past academics and work experience, here is the good news. NMIMS does not focus too much on work experience and academics and I have seen many freshers who were able to make it into NMIMS by scoring 210+. So all you need to do is work hard and not give up.

Is it difficult to get into NMIMS Mumbai, as a fresher (engineering graduate) with average acads (86/68/67) and a good NMAT score (210+)? Will my low scores affect during PI?

NP
Nidhi Pandey Posted On : February 23rd, 2023
Former Student at SVKM's NMIMS (2016–2018)

NMAT has no age limit and is open to freshers as well. The only eligibility criteria is an Education pattern of 10+2+3/4 years. The new exam pattern and scoring criteria have made it all the easier. NMAT will now be 108 questions and 120 minutes, unlike its earlier pattern of 120 questions and 120 minutes.

The sections will have the same weightage of 36 questions each in terms of the number of questions. But the time allotted to each section has changed.

  • VA- 36 questions ; 28 minutes.
  • LR- 36 questions ; 40 minutes.
  • Quant & DI - 36 questions ; 52 minutes.

NMAT has sectional cut-offs, so no section is more or less important. The factors taken into account for final shortlisting and their respective weights are given below

Parameter

Weightage

NMAT

70

Case Discussion

7.5

Personal Interview

7.5

Work experience/ Extracurricular/Achievements

5

Past academic records Co-curricular achievements

10

Your NMAT score will have no impact on your Personal Interview. The panelists usually question you on the basis of your CV and the question sheet you filled out while submitting documents. They might also question your GK and knowledge of current affairs. So be prepared for this round as it is a crucial part of the admissions process.
