How is hostel life in the Madras Institute of Technology? What is the hostel GATE closing time?

SC

During my brother’s college days, they roam around freely as there was no fence. But now, to get into the hostel zone of MIT, you must walk around the fence. One of the primary difficulties for dormitory students should be this. However, this has been done from a managerial standpoint to improve safety.

  • The hostel zone takes up about a third of the overall campus space, making it one of the smallest in Tamil Nadu.
  • A great area filled with trees for convenience and to enable interactions with all of the batchmates, juniors, and seniors, was too compact, yet too good.
  • The smaller the campus, the shorter the distance between MITians.
  • As the hostels are close to one another, the students are easily connected to all of their fellow MITians.
  • The only disadvantage is that the playground with extra dorms is located through the main gate, which is very far.
  • Except for breakfast, hostel messes were always full. However, even at that time, a single plate is shared by a large group of friends.
  • Students rush into the mess at 8.25 a.m. to smuggle their breakfast onto their friend's plate.

Everything that happens there, from department slides to songs, films, IPL games, MITAFEST, and so on, introduces MITians to a new universe in which they not only sit and watch but also shout, dance, and play on stage.

Hostel gate closing timings are 6:00 pm for first-year engineering students. 9:00 pm for girls and 10:00 pm for boys respectively.

Are mobile phones allowed at the Madras Institute of Technology?

UT
Ushes Thayumanavan Posted On : April 26th, 2021
BE Electronics and Communication Engineering, Madras Institute of Technology, Tamil Nadu, India (2021)

Yes, mobile phones are allowed inside the premises of MIT provided the faculty teaching inside the class does not create an issue out of it. The points below are some of the scenarios which are generally seen inside the campus

  • There are several instances where students have to face problems due to the use of mobile phones inside the class or inside an exam hall.
  • Using a Smartphone inside an ongoing class is usually not a big deal. There are some teachers who throw the student out of the class if they encounter a phone and it usually leads to unwanted circumstances.
  • There are students who are daring enough to use a Smartphone inside an exam hall, which is a funny experience. But, if such a student is caught, he/she has to face major punishment after such an act.

Therefore, using a Smartphone inside a normal lecture is not a big deal inside Madras Institute of Technology.

What is the procedure for admission in Madras Institute of technology for M.tech courses?

SS
Shashank Singh Posted On : April 26th, 2021
Studied at Madras Institute of Technology, Tamil Nadu, India (2019)

There are two ways of admission to Madras Institute of Technology for an M.Tech degree, the first is through GATE and the second through TANCET.

The admission to all the campuses of Anna University (MIT, CEG, ACT, and SAP) usually starts in the month of July. Applicants then start filling the applications having their valid GATE or TANCET scorecard, along with several other documents like photocopy, provisional certificates, mark sheets, etc.

  • After the filling of forms, separate rank lists for GATE and TANCET are published. Then, students are called for combined counseling which takes place in the CEG campus.
  • Usually, the GATE counseling takes place before the TANCET counseling. But, the number of seats available for TANCET is more than that for GATE.
  • There are provisions for reserved seats in both GATE and TANCET. TANCET candidates are not given any stipend for their M.Tech program, but GATE seat students are given a certain stipend by the MHRD.
  • Students missing the date of counseling are not allowed in the subsequent dates.

These are the two main modes of admission for M.Tech at Madras Institute of Technology. Other than these, there is a provision of admission through the NRI quota, where only 2 or 3 seats are reserved in every stream. NRI quota seats have a separate fee structure too.

Is there lateral entry in the Madras Institute of Technology?

AD
Anita Deshmukh Posted On : April 26th, 2021
Studied at Madras Institute of Technology, Tamil Nadu, India

No, lateral entry in any branch of B.Tech is not available in Madras Institute of Technology or any other campuses of Anna university like CEG, etc. So, students can not directly join B. Tech after a polytechnic degree, but there is an option to join the institute for the same streams, which is stated below in points.

  • For students who are interested in B.Tech streams after a diploma, the Madras Institute of Technology provides part-time courses in the same disciplines.
  • Every campus of Anna University, whether it is MIT, CEG, SAP, or ACT, provides part-time courses for students.
  • For a student interested in a part-time course, he/she must have a minimum two-year work experience in the industry. Along with the experience, students also need to show a letter from the current employer about the recommendation of admission.
  • The part-time courses in B.Tech are for three and a half years. The academic year for part-time courses starts in the month of December.

Through the part-time courses, candidates can have the degree in their chosen streams, even without a lateral entry in Madras Institute of Technology.

How is the Madras Institute of Technology?

SV
Shaurya Verma Posted On : April 26th, 2021
MBA from Madras Institute of Technology, Tamil Nadu, India (2010)

Madras Institute of Technology has always marked a high rank in the history of engineering colleges in India. It is an excellent institute for an engineering degree, which provides a separate well-established syllabus and procedures being a direct branch of Anna University, which is different from other colleges affiliated to Anna University.

The points below give a brief overview of all the advantages and disadvantages of the institute.

  • The junior-senior relationship is quite good. There are several intra and inter-college fests organized.
  • All the fests are conducted entirely by students, having independent student governing bodies. In the first year of UG, students need to either take one of the three – NSS, NSO, or YRC. There are several clubs like the personality development association, Rotaract club, etc which deal with social welfare and development.
  • The fees of all the branches of Anna University are quite low, which is a good initiative of the Tamil Nadu government. Even after that, deserving students get scholarships at Madras Institute of Technology.
  • The campus life is excellent. The campus is situated very near to the Chrompet bus stand and the Chrompet Railway station. There are two cinema halls, several hotels, and restaurants, shopping malls, banks, etc close to the campus. So, there is a good arrangement for entertainment nearby.
  • Although Madras Institute of Technology is better than most other similar-graded institutes, there are few disadvantages too. For example, there is a lack of cleanliness inside the campus, and few faculties are not good at teaching subjects properly.

What is the ranking of Madras Institute of Technology in aerospace engineering in India?

DR
Danna Ray Posted On : May 18th, 2021
B.tech from SVKM's NMIMS (2019)

The ranking of Madras Institute of Technology doesn't really matter because there is no scope for Aerospace Engineering in India. It may sound very good in the beginning but after joining this course you will face difficulties. It will create a negative viewpoint for this course and you will feel like dropping this course after 1 or 2 years.

The placements of this branch are also very poor due to less demand in the industry. Securing a job at Hindustan Aeronautics or ISRO will be a little difficult due to fewer openings. ISRO recruits most of the engineers from IISc, so you might have to wait for a few years to get a job there. You can also do MS abroad and then try getting a decent job over there.

Aeronautical Engineering at Madras Institute of Technology

Course Fee

2.00 lakh

Median Salary Package

13.6 LPA

Though this is one of the most difficult courses in engineering, still no one cares much about it and thus has very less demand too. It will be better if you can opt for any other branch rather than choosing Aerospace engineering.

What are the ways to get admission in madras institute of Technology for B.tech?

PS
Pia Singh Posted On : May 18th, 2021
Studied at Madras Institute of Technology, Tamil Nadu, India (2019)

According to my friend studying there, Madras Institute of Technology is one of the reputed engineering institutes. Getting admission in a B.Tech program is somewhat difficult. Here are some of the ways you could get admission.

  1. TNEA: This method is applicable only to the students who have completed their 12th from Tamil Nadu.
  2. Other State Quota: If you belong to another state other than Tamil Nadu and have completed your 12th outside of Tamil Nadu can apply through this entry by showing their residence proof.
  3. NRI & FN quota: Students who are children of Indian Workers in Gulf Countries (CIWGC) or are Non-Resident Indians (NRI) or are Foreign Nationals can apply through this entry. The students must have studied from an English medium school or should have decent proficiency in English.

There are also some other ways like Government quota, Governor quota, Vice-Chancellor quota through which students can get admission. By getting a letter from higher government officials like the Governor or Vice-Chancellor, will secure your admission.

What will be the cutoff for the Madras Institute of Technology 2018 (aeronautical engineering)?

SR
Sritama Ray Posted On : May 18th, 2021
Studied at Madras Institute of Technology, Tamil Nadu (2016)

The cut-off marks are generally very high for aeronautical engineering at Madras Institute of Technology. This may vary according to the category you belong to.

  • If you are a general category student then the cut off marks will be 198 or more.
  • It will be 196 for BC, 194 for BCM, 195 for MBC and 190 for SC/ST students.

The cut off marks are decided based upon the percentage of subjects like Physics, Chemistry and Maths specially.

Suppose if you are a state board student, then the total marks would be 200. If the marks scored in Physics, Chemistry and Maths are 190,196,195 respectively then the percentage is -

Physics

[190/200 x 100] = 95%

Chemistry

[196/200 x 100] = 98%

Maths

[195/200 x 100] = 97.5 %

Cut Off

97.5 +[(95+98) ÷ 2] = 194

The cut off marks are very high for aeronautical engineering. You must score very good marks and get higher rankings in order to secure a seat in this branch. The competition is also too high.
