How is the MBA at sibm Bangalore?

UB
Udita Bose Posted On : July 17th, 2021
SIBM Bengaluru (2018)

SIBM Bengaluru is based in south India. It falls under the same category as of FORE School of Management, IFRM Chennai. In terms of placement, ROI, and Faculty, it is one of the top three business schools in Bengaluru.

It has grown rapidly since its inception and has been performing well in its 21 years of existence.

Placement statistics - 2021:

  • Highest CTC: INR 32 LPA
  • Average CTC: INR 10. 60 LPA
  • Median CTC: INR 10 LPA

Academics:

  • It follows a similar academic curriculum as of Symbiosis University. What makes it stand out is the presence of eight Bloomberg terminals.
  • It follows a blend of classroom sessions, presentations, and case studies of Harvard Business School as well as Iver Publications for which it has subscribed, to teach and impart knowledge to its students.
  • Every day is a new learning experience with the well-experienced faculty. They encourage new ideas and promote interactive sessions.

Location:

Another plus point is its location. It provides exposure to the corporate world because of its location in the IT hub.

The batch sizes are small. It has 10 committees and 11 clubs that work on encouraging students on participating and getting involved in college fests and other events, which clearly justifies that it is a student-centric college.

Which is better, SIBM Bangalore or FORE?

BG
Bidita Ghose Posted On : July 5th, 2023

My friend is an alumnus of FORE. According to him, FORE is a better choice in comparison to SIBM Bangalore. For this, he cites these reasons-

  1. FORE ranks higher in terms of industry recognition. This is the reason for a higher number of recruiters visiting the campus during placement months.
  1. Location-wise, Delhi is better from a multi-industry perspective as compared to Bangalore. Bangalore has more IT-related opportunities, but Delhi is home to a large variety of industries. This allows the student access to a larger spectrum of recruitments.
  2. FORE is an older brand. FORE has a longer background and stands higher in terms of prestige.
  3. FORE has a qualified faculty.

On the other hand, we can also say that SIBM Bangalore has the advantage of a reputation created by the older SIBM Pune. SIBM Bangalore has done well in recent years. Many HR recruiters have faith in the Symbiosis brand.

Overall, both SIBM Bangalore and FORE are good institutions. However, FORE is a better option.

Is the placement record of SIBM Bangalore inflated or is it true?

BG
Bidita Ghose Posted On : July 26th, 2023
Lives in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India

Not just the SIBM Bangalore placement records, most placement records at all the B-schools are inflated by around 20-30%. The placement committee increases the average CTC to look higher than the previous year. Also, the average CTC does not include people who remain unplaced. If a student gets two offers, both are included in the average. If a student gets a high-paying off-campus placement, the colleges include it in the placements report

Even the highest package is not correct in most cases. It can be an overseas offer and may have a 5-year retention bonus added to it. So if, say, the base salary offered is 15 LPA, you will get 2 Lakhs every year if you stay for 5 years.

Details of the offers are not made public which gives liberty to the colleges to twist facts to their advantage.

To get into SIBM Bangalore for your MBA will cost you around INR 19 Lakhs. As a student in a tier 2 college, you will most probably end up with an offer of INR 7 to 9 LPA. It is rare for students to get very high packages.

This is the reality of placements that I wanted to share with you as a former placement committee member.

You can do an MBA from SIBM Bangalore however, arrive at your final decision after considering everything.

Is SIBM Bangalore worth joining if I have a 57% in 12th?

AB

If you are a fresher, most recruiting companies will look for academic consistency. Also, many recruiters set a condition of a minimum of 60% in academics for shortlisting students. So, to improve your CV you have the following options.

  • If you are taking Finance, enroll yourself in extra certifications like CFA.
  • Participate and try to win competitions organized by companies like Asian Paint’s ‘Canvas’, JP Morgan’s ‘The Deal’, GE’s ‘Genious’, ITC’s ‘Interrobang’, Tata Steel’s ‘Steelothon’, Mahindra’s ‘War Room’, etc.

These competitions are very tough as many students from top B-schools take part in them. But if you manage to win, you will get a Pre Placement Offer (PPO) with a CTC of around 15 LPA.

Work on your communication skills, recruiters look for students with good communication skills.

For admission, you don’t need to worry about your 12th score, since there is no such minimum cutoff for it at SIBM Bangalore. But make sure you work on your CV to secure good placements.

My friend is a pass out of SIMS. According to her, some features of SIMS are

  • the majority of the batch gets placed well in the 1st half of the academic year itself.
  • use of technological advancements in our day-to-day classroom life
  • qualified and knowledgeable faculty
  • Diverse crowd
  • Strong alumni base

All these features make SIMR one of the best B Schools of India.

GIM, FORE, KJ Somaiya, and SIBM Bangalore offer 100% placement support to the students. It is a bit grim to figure out the lowest packages as they do not provide exact information. In fact, none of the colleges could guarantee a job from their side; instead, they could assure plenty of opportunities. The aptitude, capacity, and performance in the interview play a chief role.

Let us have a deeper look at SIBM Bangalore-

Many giant recruiters approach the college every year, and most of the applicants get placement in the first half of the academic year. The technological advancement in the classrooms, student-centric learning process, skilled and capable scholars, strong alumni network, and international links make SIBM one of the leading management institutes in Bangalore.

Based on these facts, you can choose SIBM Bangalore. Whatever decision you make, choose wisely.

How is SIBM Bangalore as a college? Are the placement reports embellished or are they accurate?

First of all, you should give importance to quality education instead of placements. If you are skilled and have sufficient knowledge of the concerned subject, then you will be easily placed in a company with a decent package. Various companies visit SIBM Bangalore every year, and you will get the opportunity to sit down with top recruiters. You will be placed based on your skills and knowledge. SIBM cannot guarantee 100% placement; instead, it give enough opportunities to learn and grow. This scenario is the same with all the business Schools in India

Is it compulsory to stay in a hostel in Symbiosis Bangalore?

SB
Sunit Bera Posted On : June 24th, 2021
MBA Operations Management, Symbiosis International University

Symbiosis Bangalore offers a residential MBA program so you will have to stay on the college campus itself. Although it would be beneficial for you because the college accommodation and food facilities are cheap.

In the 2nd year, you will have late hour classes so the college accommodation will be helpful for you. If you are interested to stay out of the campus then you may have to pay a fine of Rs. 100 per day. Staying on campus will help you in learning, developing teamwork, and developing interpersonal skills. The college campus has a lot of activities, social, educational, cultural, and recreational activities which you will enjoy.

Is SIBM Bangalore worth it for an MBA in Operations, ROI?

SB
Siddharth Bakshi Posted On : May 30th, 2021
Studied at MIT School of Management, Pune (2019)

This question is ambiguous, as you need more information about the ‘It’. This could be quitting a job for someone or moving away from your family for someone else. You can only make out if all this will be worth it if you compare all the options available to you.

  • In case you currently have a job and are earning about INR 6 to 7 lakhs per annum right now, it is probably not worth it at all.
  • This would not be worth it if you were a fresher either and not if you get any reservations, too.
  • If you are looking at operations, you can explore SIOM for this as they have much better infrastructure for operations and maybe even better roles to offer along with good money.
  • As far as SIBM is concerned, you can expect participation from companies like Cummins, Droege Group, Deloitte, Credit Suisse, JPMC, Amazon, and Honeywell.
  • Overall, the college has the highest salary of INR 25 LPA with an average package of INR 10.26 LPA.

But, you should know that operations jobs are lesser in number than sales jobs. If you are doing an MBA in operations, you will have to be from a niche college or be from a top-notch business school.

One of my friends at SIBM Bengaluru, says it is an excellent institute, which has been growing at an exponential pace over the last 10 years. The points below will give you a clear idea as to why you should go for SIBM Bangalore over SIIB Pune.

  • The institute completed its 10th year in 2018, after which it has seen several FMCG companies visit the campus.
  • The recruiters include top MNCs like Goldman Sachs, J.P. Morgan Chase, Deloitte, Morgan Stanley, ITC, Dell, Credit Suisse, Maruti Suzuki, etc.
  • Most of these companies recruit students for both SIP and full-time placements.
  • The average package of SIBM was Rs. 9.58 LPA, which is at present above Rs. 10 LPA.
  • For SIBM Bengaluru, the cut-off was close to 89-90 percentiles in the last few years, which has increased to some value over the last 3-4 years.
  • After clearing the cut-off, you will get a call from the institute for GEPIWAT.
  • SIBM is located at the IT hub in Bengaluru. This is an added advantage. It will help in industrial visits and internships.
