There can’t be a single professor to blame but in general, the faculty of Electrical Engineering is not quite up to the mark.
Teaching:
Most of the research work here isn’t single funded. They claim to conduct world-class research but don’t have a single journal paper for years. This is the reason why IIT Gandhinagar ranking had many pitfalls in previous years.
Your concerns are absolutely true and on the morning of February 17 2016 surveillance took to new heights. A student named Bhumil Acharya had committed suicide and the administration deleted his emails without a delay and shut down the campus internet to halt the spread of the news. No one was questioned and students sent a request to the Director of IIT Gandhinagar to answer the allegations. The students were spied on and they registered their protest on the unjust elements of the practice.
The institute tried to put up a false image with its pictures expressing students' joy or by highlighting trivial events on social media rather than the fact that they are waving a 'Goebbelsian propaganda' in confluence with the faculty, although it will ultimately prove to be destructive because the truth cannot remain hidden.
From the Ahmedabad Railway Station (Kalupur Junction), the campus is at a distance of approximately 30kms.
The latest timings of the shuttle are 7:15 AM, 9 AM, 12 PM, 3 PM, 6 PM, 7:30 PM (8 PM on weekends), and 10:30 PM.
My friend studies in IIT Gandhinagar and it is a general rule that IITians have to face some amount of ragging however, this could be true or false because he did not face any. There has not been even the mildest instance of ragging there, to date. It's good if you do not like the experience of it, but for some, it is part of the freshmen days and they cherish the bonding which develops during such events with the seniors.
You can also communicate your concerns with the seniors beforehand, I'd say you're fortunate to be part of IIT GN and the seniors are one of the best guides during that time for almost everything.
My brother studies at IIT Gandhinagar and I'll tell you his favorite spots on the campus. Firstly, the terrace of the G-block in VGEC is a popular spot for relaxation and gossiping because the door is always open even though there are terraces in each block.
Some other places are as follows:
Electrical Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar, or as we would call it often - IIIT GN is pretty decent. The research activities revolve around Electrical and Electronics teaching. Even today in 2021, the department still happens to offer a degree in B.Tech, M.Tech, and even Ph.D.

Whatever you grasp via the course should be authentic and is ensured by the department. You are required to focus upon laboratory components, projects, and internships. Not just experienced, but the department also comprises a team of young faculty too who are equally dedicated and dynamic.
Keeping research and teaching aside, faculties would also be seen engaging themselves in organizing various events which are camps, workshops, and constant campus visits so that the environment carries on a conducive environment that helps the students learn better.
There are various reasons which can state with conviction that IIT Gandhinagar is different from other IITs. Ranked 24 by NIRF, IIT Gandhinagar is a very well-respected institute.
Therefore, it can be concluded that IIT Gandhinagar is a commendable institute but it is also important to bear in mind that all IITs are good and strive for providing holistic education.
Both metallurgical and electrical engineering are highly respected fields of study. The choice between them will depend on your personal interests and career goals. The old IITS like Kharagpur and Roorkee has a long-standing legacy in metallurgical engineering, whereas the new IITs like Gandhinagar and Mandi have strong electrical engineering programs.
However, personally, I feel metallurgy in Kharagpur or Roorkee is a better option than joining EE in newer IITs. Here are a few points that support my stance
Ultimately, the choice between metallurgical engineering at an old IIT and electrical engineering at a new IIT will come down to your personal inclinations and career goals.
It is clear how so many students from IIT Gandhinagar have answered your question before me. And this is what makes these answers slightly biased. But I would try on my part, to provide you with authentic information on IIT Gandhinagar- without coming off as biased.
STEP 1: DECIDE YOUR BRANCH
STEP 2: BITS vs IIT
Therefore, if the USA is on your bucket list, go for IIT. Grabbing a foreign internship at IIT Gandhinagar is easier. But then if you simply want to stay in India and study, BITS Goa and IIT Gandhinagar stand equal as a brand.
In case you have second thoughts on learning MS applications and shifting abroad, check the next step.
STEP 3: TAKE IT EASY
One of my friends had an option to choose between a certain branch that held his interest among IIT Gandhinagar for Electrical Engineering or the AIEEE colleges. It even included underrated IITs like metallurgy, aeronautical, etc. But he was certain about Electrical. Eventually, the choices came down to NIT Warangal and IIT Gandhinagar. He then thought that NIT Warangal was better than BITS Goa despite having BITS Goa for Electrical. And he eventually went for IIT Gandhinagar considering its popularity.
He was a 2013 pass-out and even after this, he is still not sure if he had made the right decision. It is fine if you're unable to make a decision. But once you decide, make sure to excel at it.
Getting a 9+ CGPA anywhere is not an easy job. You need to be constant in terms of study and securing 9+ CGPA overall requires a high CGPA in all the subjects.
Credit System:
For IIT Gandhinagar, there is a credit system where the first semester consists of 22 credits with 4 courses of 4 credits and 2 are of 3 credits. Coming to the second semester, it has a total of 24 credits where 5 subjects have 4 credits and 2 subjects have 2 credits in all.
Useful Tips:
Now to get all the credits and achieve a high CGPA, the 10 points that are A grade is not easy to attain as they are given to fewer students whereas there are more students in the race of 9 points. As the subjects in the first year are the same, the classes will have around 150 students.
To attain a high grade in IIT Gandhinagar your CGPA should not be lower than 9. To achieve this you need to prove yourself in every subject as well as keep a track of the grades in the regular study pattern and continuous assessment.
Awards:
To keep you motivated, IIT Gandhinagar includes felicitation of the top performers by the dean and distribution of several other medals for both academic and non-academic domains. One of the domains of getting a medal is exemplary human qualities. So, there is always a reward for the good deeds.
The director in a five-week foundation program also guides students on how to achieve high grades. For the ones who are unable to attain good grades, the institute helps them find their own talents and interests.
